To not go to the doctor about illness?

lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 18:45

Or - AIBU to ignore my 'symptoms' and hope they go away on their own?

It isn't life threatening. Reasons are:

  1. Treatment is unlikely to be effective
  2. Doctors are busy and I have a different illness they are helping with - don't want to be seen as a hypochondriac

Sometimes i want to moan on her but everyone would just say go to the Doctor!

YANBU not to go, but it's not a once in a lifetime decision. You can make a different decision in the future if something changes.

IMO the doctors' opinion of you as a person, hypochondriac or otherwise, is irrelevant. I wouldn't be basing any decision on speculation about what they might think.

Floggingmolly · 24/03/2016 18:57

Do you have enough medical knowledge to declare "treatment would not be effective"??

FunkyPeacock · 24/03/2016 18:59

YANBU

I probably wouldn't bother going in the circumstances you describe

lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 19:00

Flogging, not medical but I know myself well. Plus I don't think the doctor would give me much of s medical examination in fairness.

Didn't understand your question? What symptoms?

Floggingmolly · 24/03/2016 19:06

If it's a lump anywhere, go to the doctor.

lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 19:07

No, nothing like that.

OP posts:
Vintage45 · 24/03/2016 19:12

Is it a mystery?

lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 19:16

?

OP posts:
ScrumpyBetty · 24/03/2016 19:19

It depends. Can you cope with the symptoms on your own or do you need doctors to help to provide pain meds or refer you to specialists etc for further treatment?

lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 19:42

It's one of those things I think I just have to learn to live with :)

OP posts:
Sothisishowitfeels · 24/03/2016 19:47

I don't think anyone can really day without knowing what it is but I spent 8 years suffering with depression and panic attacks thinking no one could help - one mention of it at the doctor and I was proved wrong

Vintage45 · 24/03/2016 19:50

What do you think the doctor would say if you went in and showed him this thread by way of explanation? I'm not being harsh to you OP but I don't understand what you mean?

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 24/03/2016 19:50

Well what is it OP? Or are you being mysterious as a way of channeling your inner wilful child?
If it's a big wart on your derriere you can probably learn to live with it, maybe even in time come to love it.
If it's a lump or something bleeding profusely, not so much.

How on earth you expect anyone here to advise you when you are being all bashful is a mystery to me

lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 20:10

I'm not being bashful, it is depression. I just know a lot of people will say they got better with XYZ d I won't, so ...

OP posts:
Oakmaiden · 24/03/2016 20:14

How do you know you won't?

How well are you functioning currently? If you are functioning ok, then fine. If not, then you should at least consider asking for help.

Sothisishowitfeels · 24/03/2016 20:14

Please go to the doctor honestly it isn't something to put up with alone.

MrsBobDylan · 24/03/2016 20:14

I think yabu asking us-we don't know what it is so really can't say either way.

I think you think you should go, deep down anyway.Grin

Brainwashed · 24/03/2016 20:15

You do realise that's your depression talking don't you?

Miloarmadillo1 · 24/03/2016 20:15

Surely that's just the depression talking? How do you know it won't get better with XYZ if you haven't even been and discussed the options?

Sothisishowitfeels · 24/03/2016 20:15

Oh and I'm not better - but I have been feeling a little light at the end of the tunnel just from having someone say - you know what it's ok!

Vintage45 · 24/03/2016 20:17

So now you've said OP, there is absolutely no way a doctor will poopoo depression. GO and see them sweetheart. Flowers

MrsBobDylan · 24/03/2016 20:17

Cross post. You should go. You don't have to take anything just because the dr advises you, but you should find out what your options are.

lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 20:17

I don't think they'd poo poo it but I don't think they'd be able to help.

OP posts:
lightsnotchanging · 24/03/2016 20:19

I don't think they would poo poo it I just don't think they can help, so I don't want to bother them as essentially I'd just be whining and wasting their time.
