I love things like this. I show them to DH just to watch him recoil in horror. He nearly ended up on the other side of the room with this one! Grin

Speaking of creepy, I worry about these people

ToastedOrFresh · 24/03/2016 01:56

Erm the mind boggles !

They look like dead babies. It's like she was actually feeding and nappy changing a dead baby. (Do these people need help ?) Did she really set her alarm to feed and clean the baby at 3am ?

How does the poop get into the baby ? Do you buy that as an extra ? I wondered if the nappies were part of the toy and they came ready pooped.

I don't find it creepy, just sad, very sad.

I had children quite 'late in life' to use that expression. But (perhaps strangely) from a very young age, I always knew that I wanted a baby. I was still playing with baby dolls when I started secondary school. I eventually stopped out of embarrassment. When my friends started to have babies, I always asked if I could hold their babies or push their buggies. I started to think I would never have a baby of my own. I did have my own children but I can still see exactly why these dolls appeal to some people.

I think you're all being pretty mean. It's not creepy. It's a doll. OK I wouldn't choose to have one. But people have them for a number of reasons - perhaps they have lost babies and this is something that helps for a little while, or many other reasons too - I think it's unkind to mock the people whose lives have led them to buy these dolls. They can look incredibly real and sell for much more than the listing linked. I just feel empathy for the people who buy them, rather than abject horror.

almondpoisson · 24/03/2016 03:22

some people buy them for no reason other than liking life-like dolls, just as some people collect other items. It's no weirder than a whole ton of things people do that wouldn't make you stop and gawp. It's not for armchair psychologists to wonder why people buy them either. Nobody is harmed by it, sure you don't 'get it' and nor do I, but I can see why some people would.

CheerfulYank · 24/03/2016 03:57

It can be both creepy AND sad.

I find all very lifelike dolls creepy looking. But I can understand why people get them.

CheerfulYank · 24/03/2016 03:58

Although I swear I saw a program where it was a grandmother whose grandson had moved away, and she got a doll to look like him and cared for it. If my mother did that I would be creeped out, sorry.

sashh · 24/03/2016 04:05

Did you look at the ones that have been 'born'? One has fangs - I had to enlarge to be sure but fangs!

Mumberjack · 24/03/2016 04:19

CheerfulYank yes I remember that too. They'd been caring for their grandson as a baby as the mum had been going through cancer treatment, so weren't happy when, on getting the all clear, the family decided to move away for a fresh start.

They sent a photo of their newborn grandson to the doll company so they'd do an exact likeness. Then showed the grandson the doll over Skype!!

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 24/03/2016 05:28

I found that video surprisingly sad. It's like a baby but never will be one. Poor woman.
