I've been reading over the last year or so about Nestlé and decided to boycott, I even downloaded the list of brands to help me. Today I had a parcel from my beloved ysl... With a return label to loreal!!! I didn't realise that loreal own ysl? Though I knew Nestlé part owns loreal... So do you avoid ysl? I feel bad that I may not...

Op you know that Garnier is a L'Oréal brand, right?

Jade1212 · 24/03/2016 10:28

My understanding is that Nestlé are only linked to YSL perfume? If that's not correct then I'll stop buying touché eclat :( I do avoid Maybelline, L'Oreal, Body Shop, etc. as well as Nestlé confectionary / drinks.

It's very difficult to boycott unethical companies all of the time, and we can only do our best. Nestlé seem to have fingers in all pies.
A friend of a friend tries to boycott China, because they don't agree with their politics etc. It must be extremely difficult, because pretty much everything is manufactured in China.

We can only do our best, and usually in just a small way.

M and s claim to be ethical but a large amount of their food products contain palm oil.

Just to point out that they also import coco from the Ivory Coast and as well aschildren working 14 hour days there is also a lot of slave labour used to grow and pick the coco.
Nestle made a promise in 2005 to reduce the number of slaves used to produce their coco but so far have not made any changes.

I've started avoiding San pellegrino where possible

Am chuckling whilst trying to imagine a situation where it would not be possible to avoid San Pellegrino ...

It's difficult to boycott unethical companies, but there's so much we can do that's easy, especially with skin care and cosmetics, yet is often poo-pooed for being a bit "hippyish"/alternative. I got sick of unethical companies, animal testing, bullshit marketing and spot-causing creams and foundations, so went back to basics. Now I use soaps rather than shower gel and special facial cleansers. The coco castille is lovely on the face and their other soaps are great on the body. My moisturiser is from Avalon Organics. Lovely on the skin but no good if you hate the smell of oranges...there are planty of non-fruity ones available though. Grin My "foundation" is a BB cream from Lily Lolo as is my powder, and eyeshadows from Cute Cosmetics...I know the packaging is a bit niche (teenage goth) but the colours are lovely! And much as marketing departments try to manipulate us we should be able to look beyond packaging, right?

M and S clothing like most high street clothing is made for pennies, by people being paid pennies in the third world, and sold for a small fortune. Look at your labels. Made in India/Sri Lanka etc

SimpleSimonThePieMan · 24/03/2016 19:36

Jeez, I've got far more important things to worry about than whether or not I should be boycotting certain companies. Life's too short!

OurBlanche · 25/03/2016 07:54

Yeah! It's especially short if you are a baby in countries Nestle target!

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 25/03/2016 12:58

Well, as long as you're OK Simple that's the main thing eh. Fuck all those stupid exploited people and animals Hmm Even if you don't have the best life in the world that shouldn't prevent you from having empathy for those worse off.
