AIBU?

to ask you to look at 'unanswered messages' from time to time.

With the latest site update, the 'unanswered messages' button is now hidden. It's on a drop down menu next to the big 'Talk' at the top of the page.

I just feel a bit sad that sometimes people are reaching out to others but their message goes unanswered. Okay, sometimes it's trivial stuff, but not always, and even if it is, there's something really dispiriting about being ignored. Yes, they could post in one of the busier sections of the board, but people often try to put things in the 'right' section.

So, go on, take a look. See if you can help an internet stranger asking for help or advice today.

Now down to 70. I think I might be unreasonable to keep doing a count but hey ho.

A lot of those that are left are very specific or local so short of moving to Wigan or East Sussex and doing very specific things, I don't think there's much most of us can do to help on those but it's great that 40 people now have at least one response when they had none before.

I want a little happy dance smiley now.

Why have they hidden it? I hate the new format. I still can't find the pm button either...

It's back up to 123.

I responded to one earlier which has now been deleted for trollery. I had my doubts because of where it was (feminist chat) but decided to play it with a straight bat just in case. Wtf is wrong with people?

And there seem to be a lot from some tutoring company spamming local boards.

This link ought to point you to unanswered threads. Those interested could bookmark the link.

It's important!

It's up to 170 as of about 10 minutes ago.

Anyone fancy a peek, and perhaps a reply?

I'd like the link to be un-hidden too!

Good call, scaevola.

I still look regularly, but sometimes feel so ill-equipped to help. I don't let that stop me though as, at the very least, it might act as a bump until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

I clicked on the link, couldn't help anyone but did report some spamGrin

I'd completely forgotten about unanswered, God I used to love popping in there when I first joined years ago to see if there were any threads I could help with!

Thanks for reminding me about it op

Mnhq, couldn't there be a sticky for a few weeks or so to remind / inform everyone about "unanswered"??? Smile

Thanks pippistrelle

I know I don't look in there as often as I used to, now the link is behind a drop down rather than just being there at the top like active/I'm on. But did by chance go there tonight, and saw one of the highest numbers I remember. But it's dropped to about 155, and I hope will go down a bit further.

Aaaw, we think this is a lovely idea. We'll mention it to the Powers That Be.

I used to do this too. A button on the app would be lovely.

There's something very pleasurable about responding to something on Unanswered Messages, and that little bump being enough for other posters to spot it.

I do worry sometimes about responding to things that I don't personally know much about, but I figure it's better than someone feeling ignored - and, like I say, the bump might bring it to the attention of someone who knows what they're talking about.

Another thing MNHQ might usefully do is put it on someone's 'to do' list to have a look in there every morning and delete spam and obvious duplicates (of which there are quite a few at the moment - do we have a gremlin?)

It's gone down quite a bit, to about 130 (which is however still high compared to the numbers in there before the link became less obvious).

Yay! We're been put at the top of the page. Thanks MNHQ. Hope it does the job.

Since the update I can't reply to most PM's it just comes up with a box saying mumsnet.com (or what ever the ending is) but does not send it and people think I'm ignoring them

Is the change only on the mobile site? I'm on my PC and don't seem to see it?

Report
pippistrelle · 26/04/2016 14:51

Do you mean you can't see any change, or that you can't find the button? If the latter, then I think that's the problem; a lot of people can't.

There was an update to the non-mobile site about a month ago. There used to be a button linking to Unanswered Messages right on the front page. But now it's on the drop-down menu next to the big 'Talk' at the top of the page. Not obvious at all.

nah. If the site design has been cocked up I won't bother. Getting enough trouble from the intrusive flicky blue buttons that keep putting me on pages I don't want to be on.

a lot doesn't work now, especially since I used the font changer to make it readable, so I just ignore what doesn't work. As the feedback about the site change was ignored.
