Lyrica for nerve pain

Has anybody taken this?

I've been on dihydracodeine for a month for shoulder pain. They think it's a pinched nerve in my neck and the dihydracodeine doesn't really do much for nerve pain. I've been prescribed lyrica. The leaflet and side effects look a bit scarey.

It was less than that for me. Probably 3 days.

What about for the horrible side effects. Days 1 - 3 were good. Today has been awful. Spacey, nauseous, thumping head.

It didn't help my pain, but no nasty side effects either.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 24/03/2016 20:34

Probably took me a couple of weeks to notice, but it might have been working before that, but I didn't attribute it to the pregabalin until later.

I also didn't realise the dry mouth was a side effect for ages either though - I'm a bit rubbish like that!

Yes yes to the spacey brain fog, probably why it's so hard to work out what's going on.

And yes yes to the nausea, can you get an anti nausea medicine prescribed? Would be a shame to have to give up too soon on account on a symptom that can be controlled. I take cyclizine hydrochloride almost everyday... Druggie that I am :)

Oh forgot to say, the head wore off for me ... Hope you doing better today.

ConfuciousSayWhat · 24/03/2016 20:46

The nausea passes.

These type of drugs can take up to 6 weeks to fully settle into your system, the nervous system and brain are slow to react to things and always seek to restore the status quo

Never touching pregabalin again. Side effects were terrible. Just couldn't function at work. If you need to concentrate then forget it. I'd rather have the pain than side effects.

I take Lyrica for an old shoulder injury that was also nerve pain (though not taking it at the moment as I'm pregnant). I found it hard to get used to at first, it felt like I was moving through molasses or something, I felt sluggish and drugged up. The dr assured me that feeling would go away, and it did! I find it helps a lot. The only side effect is that it would make my gums just slightly numb, if that makes sense.

On thing is that if you take it for a long time, you'll have to wean yourself off it. When I went off it, I found even with a wean it would feel like I was constantly waking all night? Like I was in a really light sleep or something. There was no discomfort, I just couldn't seem to stay asleep and it was annoying. I ended up tapering down very slowly over 2 weeks, I mean opening the capsule and taking 1/2 the amount for a few days, then 1/4 the amount... And after that sleeping was fine.

It has really worked for me and I'll look foward to being back on it once I'm done breastfeeding!

I moved onto it from gabapentin. The side effects of that were much worse for me. So pregabalin was a delight for me!
I find that kwells worked as good as anything on the nausea.
Honestly, it's worth sticking with. I feel my side effects are much lessened. I feel much more 'present' than I did on gabapentin.

The worst of it passed yesterday. Had a bit of a headache again today but it passed.

One of the strangely good side effects has been the euphoria.

It's helped the pain tremendously though.
