Hi lovely mama's

My DS is doing great and his sleeping has really come along way, but I had a question to any mums that had/are having a similar situation as me.
I put him to bed at 7, dream feed about 11-11:30 and he sleeps until 5- but is ready for the day at 5.
I must admit it's been gradual to get him to go through until 5 so I'm hoping that the 5am start will gradually make it to at least 6!
Any advice/tips would be awesome Smile

Tbf your baby is already sleeping very well for 12 weeks. Try putting E her to bed later.

Some kids are early risers though. I was and still get up at 5.30 ish.

Mine are late risers (great for dh as he likes to sleep in too and I am already up) but went to bed far later than yours.

I don't think you can expect a baby to go to bed at 7 and sleep for 12 hours with one feed.

Slightly jel :)

slebmum1 · 21/03/2016 14:04

Unfortunatley my 4.5 year olds still wake up at 5. Sorry!

thebestfurchinchilla · 21/03/2016 14:16

I think that's pretty good for a 12 week old. You could try dropping the dream feed at 11 and see if he/she still goes through. If they do then you can get to bed earlier and you might feel ok at 5. If my DD woke too early we'd give her a dummy and that usually placated her until 6ish but if you don't use one you might just have to wait it out. Some babies are still waking several times a night at 3 months so well done.

ronjo · 21/03/2016 14:19

Can you not just put him to bed at 8 instead?

StarlingMurmuration · 21/03/2016 15:27

"Is his first nap too early? DS slept later on in the morning if his first nap of the day was a bit later. "

Diddly, how does that work? My little boy is often ready for his first nap at a ridiculously early time because he's woken at an even more ridiculous time! Should I try making him last longer?

Cakescakescakes · 21/03/2016 15:36

Two things...
Get a black out blind.

And clocks go forward soon so 5am will become 6am :)

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/03/2016 15:40

Mine did until 2 yo (often 4.15am actually), after waking two or three times a night every night.

You have a dream baby, sleeping that well, and my advice would be not to mess with it. It's already too good to be true.

thinkfast · 21/03/2016 17:08

Sounds like he's a brilliant sleeper for 12 weeks. Lucky you

my2bundles · 21/03/2016 17:17

Agree with others, sounds like a brilliant sleeping pattern for the age. My eldest slept like a dream, my youngest was still waking at 4 am for the day every day untill he was almost 6.

CwtchesAndCuddles · 21/03/2016 17:27

My eight year old wakes at 5...................

Littlecaf · 21/03/2016 17:39

Welcome to parenthood!

Congratulations on having a fabulous sleeper. You wait til the 4 month & 8 month sleep regression. And teething. And the first cold. Grin

Mousefinkle · 21/03/2016 18:27

That's really good at that age. My DS wakes at 5 am now, he's six... That's just the pattern he's in and I can't really do anything to change it. Luckily he sits and quietly plays games on the laptop until his sister's wake at 6- 6:30. Obvioussssly you won't get that from a 12 week old Grin. You'll just have to grin and bear it I'm afraid. Might grow out of it, might have to wait till he can entertain himself.

TiredOfSleep · 21/03/2016 18:53

i would really recommend being v low key at that time. Essentially feeding then acting like it's night time, until a little later, even if you have to cuddle in the dim light. Even just til 5:30, then being big on 'good morning', lights on etc. Nudge this later if DS starts sleeping later.

I truly believe children learn from experience. If he woke at 4am or 3am you wouldn't shrug and start the day! I accept some children are early risers, but you can't know for sure by 12 weeks and you're encouraging it if you start the day then.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/03/2016 19:08

My daughter slept just like your son at 12 weeks. We started bringing to her bed with us for an hour or so. She'd usually drop back off. After a week or so, she just stopped waking at 5am and she was sleeping until 6am, which is wholly more reasonable.

She's 9 months now and sleeps until 6:30/7.00am and occasionally much later. She goes to bed a 7pm(roughly). We stopped the 11 feed at around 16 weeks. She just didn't wake up for it one night and we followed her lead.

Have been lucky in avoiding sleep regression too. We have of course had the odd bad week with teething and so on but overall she's been a very gentle introduction to parenthood!

Hope your son carries on sleeping well.

DallyDo · 21/03/2016 19:24

Clocks go fwd soon :)

RustyRobot · 21/03/2016 19:28

Mine woke at 5 from the first week. He is now 6 and a half. He does wake at 6 when it's summer time Grin

ginplease83 · 21/03/2016 20:29

Count yourself lucky!

BisherBasherBosher · 21/03/2016 20:34

You're seriously complaining that a 12 week old wakes at 5am after sleeping through the night Hmm

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/03/2016 20:36

He's doing well :)

You can either try hungry baby milk at DF or give extra oz or two

How much does he have?

I'm a maternity nurse and recent twin babies I looked after one slept 11-7 at 12 weeks and then 7-7 by 5mths. Other still woke 3am for feed as well as DF then woke at 7 and didn't sleep Thro 7-7 till 8mths

Or don't give DF and he will prob wake 2/3 for full feed

Or small snack 2/3oz at 5am and resettle or offer water

Don't get out of cot and play /take into yours

It's still night time

But yes clocks spring forward this weekend so 5 will be 6 so more bearable

StarlingMurmuration · 21/03/2016 20:42

Last time the clocks went forward, DS took about a week to readjust to his 5am wake ups - just saying.

ginplease83 · 21/03/2016 20:58

My DD was sleeping 12-6 at 10 weeks. Sadly it did not last.

Diddlydokey · 21/03/2016 21:22

starling it depends on the age of your child as it is much easier to play with older ones routines but at 12 weeks ideally they'd wake up at 7 then back down at 8.30 so I would push back 15 minutes at a time until you're getting back to that point.

I used to think of it as not rewarding an early wake up but it's a balancing act of avoiding an overtired baby as well.

It's better when they're 18 months and you can just put them in their cot to sleep for 2 hours, much less to think about.

icarusandhiswings · 21/03/2016 21:51

5am is the middle of the night! These babies are cruel sleep terrorists!
I just will not say a word to my baby until 6.30. I don't make any eye contact and I use body language and willpower to communicate "this is night / we should he sleeping".
It's not making any difference, but I'll never accept anything earlier than 6.30 as reasonable.

Diddlydokey · 21/03/2016 22:20

It is the middle of the night. I hate sleep deprived parents not being allowed to moan or ask advice because other babies are worse.
