to think you should take a bloody shower before a longhaul flight?

So I just got off a 13 hours flight. It was awful, mainly because the man sitting next to me had a very strong body hodour. To put it mildly, he smelled like a mix of rancid sweat and urine.

When he was perfectly still it was bad but bearable, but as soon as he moved his arms even the tiniest bit I got waves of the most disgusting hodour.

The plane was completely full so I couldn't move to a different seat (I discreetly asked the hostess). I spent 13 hours holding my breath and just feeling like I wanted to vomit really.

Needless tonsay, I was very very annoyed.

Now, I don't know whether this person had some condition that caused such a terrible smell or just did not take proper care of his hygiene. I just know he made my flight a hell.

AIBU to think people should be a bit more selfware about their BO when they are restricted in small spaces with hundreds of strangers? Shouldn't it be a matter of respect?

I think maybe the op clarified that the offending party was British to establish that it probably wasn't cultural differences at play. My dad is from a hot country and thinks he doesn't need a wash that often in cooler ones such as the UK, so left to himself he'd be a bit smelly I think. He's lucky to have gabby daughters who tell him to get in the shower Grin

Gross hate stinking people too! I would have been asked to move.

I mean I would ask to be moved

I was once on a long haul flight that had some unexpected turbulence while I was in the toilet and some piss splashed on my leg. I did my best to clean it and although I felt gross for the rest of the flight I am certain I did not smell. Had I been then taking a further connecting long haul flight maybe a smell would have surfaced? That might explain his urine smell maybe.

"I think maybe the op clarified that the offending party was British to establish that it probably wasn't cultural differences at play."

Exactly. I didn't quite know how to phrase it without sounding racist but you did it brilliantly. Thank you!

He may also have been terrified

Sorry Smile Im confused by who you mean but in case you're referring to the bloke in my post - no, he wasn't terrified. He was off duty crew deadheading to another location and just couldn't be bothered going to the loo.
