As I started unloading my trolley, saw the boy on the till twice sneeze heavily into a tissue. Moved my stuff off saying sorry I can't afford to be ill right now. He seemed somewhat surprised.

Am I alone in thinking people who handle food shouldn't be allowed to do so with an obvious heavy viral infection?

Its the tweeness Worra.
Bet if you swabbed the food packets there would be poo particles.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 20/03/2016 14:52

You're supposed to sneeze into your inside elbow, btw. Not your hand.

Hands spread germs further. You generally don't touch anything with your inside elbow.

NeedACleverNN · 20/03/2016 14:53

Least he sneezed into a tissue and not in your face/in his hands.

People cannot take time off work for a cold. So what is he supposed to do? Sit in a corner away from anyone until he stops sneezing?

HormonalHeap · 20/03/2016 14:53

Well I'll come completely 'clean' now just to make your Sunday.. I use my car key to type in my PIN number (ducks)

--my dh works in a meat factory and apart from d&v, you have to be at work. No exceptions. Imagine how many people may have sneezed on your beef before packaging it-/

NeedACleverNN · 20/03/2016 14:54

strike fail damn my fingers on iPhone

FayKorgasm · 20/03/2016 14:54

King thats going to take some contortion to stop pissing myself at the same time bastard menopause .

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2016 14:55

Don't get the car key thing. Confused

HormonalHeap · 20/03/2016 15:04

Didn't think viruses lived on surfaces a long time so even if stuff was sneezed on a few days back wouldn't matter. I guess there are colds and colds- some can see you in bed for a week so I'd rather not find out!

Sparklingbrook better that way.. I also take anti bac wipes to hotel rooms to clean tv remotes. Guess I need help...

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2016 15:17

Why car keys though? Confused

HormonalHeap · 20/03/2016 15:29

To avoid all nasty germs on number pad

OP posts:
hefzi · 20/03/2016 15:30

Hormonal maybe you are so prone to infections because you take so much care over sanitising things, so your immune system has become inefficient? I have no idea if this can happen - but I am well hard and don't even wash fruit before I eat it, and very rarely get colds etc, even though I have a poor immune system for other reasons (why does MN not have a smug emoticon?!).

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2016 15:32

I would have thought something spikey like that would damage the keypad. Maybe wear gloves.

Just wash your hands when you get home though, sorts all of it out.

HormonalHeap · 20/03/2016 15:34

Hefzi you're probably right- I have a lousy immune system probably for that reason. I don't have a problem with germs in general, just the ones that keep me in bed for a week!

Hilarious! I constantly got colds from customers! Amazingly if i went off sick everytime i had a cold i'd have gotten the sack rather quickly...

PickleSarnie · 20/03/2016 15:37

Perhaps you need to wear one of these at all times?

Tescos cashier- Atchoo!
redcaryellowcar · 20/03/2016 15:42

Sorry I've not read all the thread, but I had a similar experience in sainsburys last week, lady on customer services sneezed frequently as I was in the queue, but not even into a tissue, and no attempt to clean hands (perhaps with sanitizer) afterwards. I had to see her as On my way! as returning stuff, she didn't understand my reluctance to let her handle my card etc. I asked to speak to the duty manager who thought it was pretty revolting.

HermioneJeanGranger · 20/03/2016 15:42

If I tried to call in sick with a cold, I'd get told to get my arse into work pretty damn quickly! I was in work with a cold today. I can't afford to lose a day of pay.

hefzi · 20/03/2016 15:43

Tbh, hormonal, I mainly find it's other bloody people who are the problem Grin I am totally going to get myself one of Pickle's outfits - that'll show the bastards!

HormonalHeap · 20/03/2016 16:07

Love it PickleSarnie where do I find

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 20/03/2016 16:35

Haha that's hilarious, I can only imagine phoning my manager and telling her I can't go in because I have a cold.

Maudofallhopefulness · 20/03/2016 16:38

Bloody hell, I'd have had to take the whole winter off work. My cold is never ending and regularly replenished by ds and his nursery germs.

AdriftOnMemoryBliss · 20/03/2016 16:46

tesco's sick leave policy is disgusting, and if you go over their threshold (3% or 3 periods of absence in 6mo) they will discipline you for it, and you can lose your job. THey also don't pay you for the first 3 days you're off ill in a period of absence.

If you only work a couple of days a week, you cant have ANY time off because you will immediately cross the 3% threshold for an attendance investigation.

if you don't want their staff sneezing on you, i suggest you try tackling the company over its frankly shocking policy that keeps staff who would rather be at home, at work.

Vintage45 · 20/03/2016 16:50

This thread has made me laugh out loud.

In saying that, if i'd just had a cold and someone sneezed near me, I'd be off like a rocket. Hate the bloody things! So I do sort of get you OP but we all know it's a bit PFB.

kali110 · 20/03/2016 16:52

AdriftOnMemoryBliss that seems to be standard for most retailers, disciplinary for 3 abscenses in 6 months...
