To think the NCT should not be promoting Vagisil?

I've just been at an NCT Nearly New sale to buy baby clothes etc. I'm pregnant with DC1, not an NCT member, and this was the first time I'd been.

On the way in I was given a goody bag containing free samples of nappy cream, baby bubble bath etc. I didn't actually look at any of it until after I'd left. When I got home I was shocked to discover that among the samples was a bottle of "feminine wash".

I always thought the NCT was pro-women and their bodies. Why on earth would they be giving out something that's unnecessary at best, harmful to the natural balance of your body, and perpetuates the idea that female genitalia are dirty???

I agree that water is perfectly adequate, such as in a nice bath or shower, with perhaps a touch of bath gel or shower lotion.

I think YANBU OP and think the NCT or any other organisation should think carefully about what "free samples" they include in a freebie bag. Just because it's free doesn't mean there's no responsibility for it and the messages, however subtle, that might go with it. So, I think that's a poor argument.

Otherwise it would be fine for hospitals to give out free baby milk, as indeed they used to, and still do I think in some countries. In countries without adequate access to clean water and sanitary conditions for preparation of bottles this can cause very serious illness in many babies.

I have no problem with the advertising of formula (in parts of the world where it is appropriate to use it) either tbh.

WorraLiberty · 19/03/2016 15:14

Yes, please re-gift the Vagisil.

It will make the Christmas Secret Santa thread so much more interesting.

Found some special bollock wash

I use femfresh when my fanny eczema flares up, it's the only thing that leaves me feeling properly clean, as I can't wipe properly as it's too painful, and doesn't leave my bits all stingy and sore.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/03/2016 15:18

Ffs equating fantastic wash with free milk, bloody hell some people get a life!

Sanchar · 19/03/2016 15:19

iklboo · 19/03/2016 15:20

Damnit, I'd thought I'd found a gap in the market. Maybe if I invent ones with special 'male' smell then - engine oil, curry, beer......

Aeroflotgirl · 19/03/2016 15:20

Fanny silly auto correct.

iklboo · 19/03/2016 15:22

£46 bleeding quid PLUS postage?!! Shock

Sanchar · 19/03/2016 15:25

for the tighter fisted discerning male

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/03/2016 15:25

It was mainly the argument "It's free, if you don't want it, don't use it" Aero
I just don't think that's an entirely adequate argument that's all

And some people do seem ridiculously grateful for a few cheap samples of anything such as in the infamous Bounty bags. Others of us are not so easily impressed Hmm

Aeroflotgirl · 19/03/2016 15:35

Eye roll, they are giving it to adults ffs it's up to them to use it, no different to showr er gel. Some people needs bloody great grip!!!

WeDoNotSow · 19/03/2016 15:39

I agree that water is perfectly adequate, such as in a nice bath or shower, with perhaps a touch of bath gel or shower lotion

Water isn't adequate if it needs 'a touch' of anything surely?

Elle80 · 19/03/2016 15:59

My soap was very offensive to me in the shower this morning. Shock

For years NCT NNSale goody bags were stuffed with Tena Lady Confused not ideal when targeted at newly post natal women. Pissed me off that NCT were seeking to normalise incontinence in young women for a quick buck. We used to stuff a slip of paper in: 'visit your GP if you experience bladder changes post pregnancy' Grin

HPsauciness · 24/03/2016 19:38

I also don't get the hatred of these washes on here.

I use one, buy it in the poundshop, lasts about 4/5 months and doesn't irritate that area (only used externally).

In the past, I have irritated myself using shower gel or an ordinary soap, the only thing that didn't irritate was Clinique bar, but that's rather expensive as a way to wash your bits.

I don't know why some people on MN don't ever smell a tiny bit after a day in tights or hot environment, my armpits and my bits both get a bit niffy. Just water isn't enough for the rest of my body or my hair and it's not quite enough for me at least for down there (externally, nothing goes internally obviously).

I have found an exceptionally cheap solution which doesn't irritate anything at all, how that is anti-feminist or anti-women's bits, I really don't know.

People love to be shocked Grin

Just as a side note, I put a bit of Badedas in my bath after having ds and having stitches. It was really soothing!

Whats the NCT? is it a bit like the TUC?

If someone give you a product its up to you to use it or not surely.

I have had vaginosis or whatever its called in my time and yes you can get it by sitting in soapy water etc.

I'm sensitive to most products in or out of the vag. So a bit of oilatum in the bath did it for me.

scaevola · 24/03/2016 20:03

You really, really don't want to use for the first time a new (scented) product on your undercarriage in the first six weeks or so until everything has settled down.

Stick to products you know, and I scented towels (even if you're ok with them at other times).

PenguinVox · 24/03/2016 20:03

YANBU.
I'm surprised there are so many people who think you are being unreasonable!

Fratelli · 24/03/2016 20:38

What's wrong with Badedas gelee in the bath? It really helped me and loads of people recommended it to me including a midwife.

GingerLDN · 25/03/2016 01:31

I thought this was a joke but obviously not. Do people really bother so much about these things? Some people might have been glad to try it out. Don't use it if you don't want to. It's just a washing product targeted at a specific area. Like face wash, shampoo, toothpaste. I've tried it, it's alright.
