AIBU?

To report this driver to the police?

Jesus. Just driving back from the supermarket- a journey that should take 5 minutes has taken double.

Old woman driving at 15mph on a 40mph road for no reason what so ever- and slammed on her brakes, again for no reason, twice. Second time I beeped my horn at her, and the car behind beeped at me- she nearly caused us both to crash. Open road, quiet (there were us 3 on the road and I saw 2 going in the other direction while driving)

Refused to overtake a cyclist who ended up pulling over and stopped and gestured at her- then she hesitated for a good 5 seconds before pulling RIGHT out on to the other side of the road to overtake despite the cyclist being right on our side of the road and she could of got past straggling the middle line.

Car was completely bashed in at the back so she has clearly had an accident. Both stopped at our local petrol station but managed to hold my tongue. She must of been mid 80s and could barely walk into the petrol station.

AIBU to report? Surely this driving is just as reckless as severely breaking the speed limit?

The police may have opened the case but the chances of them actually taking action are very slim. Id be surprised if they even looked at the dash cam footage tbh.

I am actually.

Just dont know why you would choose to post on a thread that I last posted on hours ago, to disagree with me other than to start an argument?

Dont like. Dont read. Simples 😊

I have no interest in starting an argument; have posted earlier in the thread, was agreeing with a PP and it's in active topics. So, do you still think you get the Internet? Because you sound like someone on MSN in 2003

I miss MSN. Does anyone else remembering signing in and out to get the attention of their crush?! Haha.

I think you were right to report. It is indeed true that the elderly are in fewer car accidents. But they are, as a group, on the road less frequently and nobody looks at the stats for what percentage of accidents are caused by their appalling driving.

I'd been very happy with system which saw people resitting their driving test every 5/10 years. Not least because then I wouldn't be one of a minority on the road who remembers to indicate before hitting the brakes.

Ah MSN. Looking at what music everyone was listening to and then illegally downloading it through Limewire and giving my computer AIDS in the meantime.

I accidentally downloaded porn once- and opened it in front of my nan. I was about 13- got banned from the PC for nearly a month.

I have failed a driving test for going too slow. It was a 50 limit and I continued to do 35. To be honest, I wasn't ready to pass my test and I didn't feel comfortable with the acceleration. It was a country road, but a smooth one with clearly definite lanes and no sharp bends.

It all depends on conditions, but that behaviour on a dry and open road with no apparent reason is dangerous.
As PP's have said, braking erratically when on coming traffic appears - Yes! I have seen a few elderly people do that.

I have never reported anyone, but in your position Op, I am glad you did so the police can investigate.

Yes, I've known people to fail for going too slow on a driving test too.

I think reporting was the right thing to do, but FWIW it would be your fault if you went into the back of her for driving too close. Also, you should give cyclists as much room as you would a car when overtaking.

Op is being rude perhaps because she's guilty, wondering if she should self report herself for driving too close to car in front.

In Ireland you can be done for driving too slowly under 'failure to make reasonable progress'

Can't believe some people on here are trying to defend it!

Yep driving too slow is dangerous, as is driving too close, esp perhaps driving too close to someone you've already identified as poor or nervous driver. There's two bad drovers here not just one, two separate issues.

I know of someone who drove like this, turned out she had bad arthritis. Sad situation but she clearly shouldn't be on the road as either her or someone else could have been seriously hurt. Report to the police, they can contact dvla who can tell lady she must see a GP to produce a report on whether she's fit to drive. If not, licence can be revoked.

Painful as it is, the person may have medical conditions and be unfit to drive. Yes you should as it could save her or others injury or worse.

Well done OP, it's sad but in your case and with the dash cam evidence I definitely would have reported her.

Buckinbronco · 19/03/2016 08:08

OP is being rude because she's immature.
