To put away my winter clothes?

Is it too soon to pack up my thick tights, vests, woollen jumpers and polar explorer coat? I'm home with the DCs for Easter and in the mood for putting all the winter stuff away and embracing spring. I want to say goodbye to hats, gloves, the lot of it and not see it again for months. AIBU? Will I regret it a week from now?

I feel the cold so don't pack winter stuff away. I do pack summer stuff away though as I only wear that for about five minutes when on holiday.

makawaka8 · 17/03/2016 13:48

Mymble then I'm sad along with you in that case. Its a ritual I love!

I put all our winter stuff away last week as it was really mild and sunny. It snowed yesterday. I am in the south of France.

Gottagetmoving In Yorkshire where I come from the saying is "never cast a clart (meaning vest) until May is art (out). My understanding is that the May referred to is not the month of May but the May flower

Gottagetmoving · 18/03/2016 13:22

Yes, thecitydoc it doesn't mean the month. It's the blossom. At least, that's what I read.

BillBrysonsBeard · 18/03/2016 14:41

It felt so Spring like the other day but now back to being cold.. I remember last year going on a walk in April still all wrapped up. I never pack anything away though, I went on a holiday to Cornwall last July and the evenings were freezing!

Empress3 · 18/03/2016 14:44

Yesterday I was driving and I was sweating in my car but today its freezing so I wouldnt just yet put them away, maybe april.

Orangeanddemons · 18/03/2016 16:10

I remember being on holiday in Cornwall in August. It was 9 degrees once.

Dd still went in the seaShock

Flashbangandgone · 18/03/2016 16:17

It's due to be significantly colder over the coming week than it was for most of December... Also, it's only 3 years ago that it was sub-zero all day for a couple of days in late March. So, no, you'd be daft to put away your winter clothes yet... I'd wait at least another month.

Stratter5 · 18/03/2016 16:18

I remember it snowing in June. A lot. At least a foot of snow.

Jw35 · 18/03/2016 17:03

I haven't worn my winter coat for at least a month! Maybe because I'm pregnant and warm all the time? But my dd hasn't been wearing hat and gloves for a while, I just ordered her a spring coat as thinking of putting her winter coat away soon! I don't wear jumpers very often just long sleeved tops, open leather jacket and silky scarf. I'm near London

OSETmum · 18/03/2016 18:33

You better not you'll jinx it for the rest of us!

Justmuddlingalong · 18/03/2016 18:39

Go for it, OP. I took the 15 tog duvet off when I changed the bedding this week. Now using a 4.5 tog and perfectly warm at night.

Danglyweed · 18/03/2016 18:42

I remember the days I used to swap my winter/summer clothes, now I dont bother. Cosy fluffy socks and winter coat seem to be a year round necessity nowadays... this has been one long ass winter though!!

Orangeanddemons · 18/03/2016 20:50

You lot must live in a different world to me. It's grim outside here tonight. Muzzle, cold, fog and 3 degrees. Where do you live?

Orangeanddemons · 18/03/2016 20:51

Mizzle! Not muzzle....

roverover4 · 18/03/2016 20:54

Well forget that idea then. It was bloody freezing today and I was glad of my wool. The heating has been on and I'm holding off on getting my shorts down out of the loft.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 18/03/2016 20:55

I live on the south coast and the forecast was feels like 1 degree today! Winter is still firmly with us.

Last years went to the Peak District for a week the end of May. I needed hat and gloves and insulated coat on the high ground. As I did on the top of skiddaw in August.

I'm not packing away anything this year!

RalphSteadmansEye · 18/03/2016 20:56

Not really much to put away - it hasn't really been cold enough for proper winter coats, big jumpers or hats and scarves this year, has it? Don't think we've had it go below zero (Midlands). But it's also unlikely to get warm enough to discard tights, boots or thin sweaters for a while!

Dowser · 18/03/2016 21:51

We are lucky enough to take winter holidays so we can carve a few weeks off winter.

It's lovely wearing summer dresses and no tights/ stockings etc in feb/ march and november.

Back to reality next week :-(
Sob!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 18/03/2016 21:56

Sounds lovely Dowser

We had a winter holiday but we went to Shropshire! It was actually surprisingly lovely but not summer dress weatherGrin
