24hr A&E why have they gone there?

Just watching 24hr in A&E.
AIBU to be annoyed at the woman who has taken her 6 yr old to A&E, he got a splinter in his foot a week ago which has turned into a puss filled blister. How is this an emergency? And we wonder why A&E departments are on their knees?
Surely this should be a GP appointment. Yes he may be uncomfortable for a couple of days but he's not dying. Is it a sign of today's expectation of instant service or AIBU to think that this situation is unacceptable?

Was in A&E last week when I broke my leg. Spent much of the time playing, "And why are YOU here, exactly?" in my head. Guy with his arm hanging off? Lady bleeding profusely? They got a pass. Some of the others, though...

I was not in a carnival mood since I'd already been told there weren't any ambulances for at least five hours, and then there was a 5-hour wait at A&E.

The people I saw clearly had no kids with them and were in kids a&e because adults a&e was full I assume. Perhaps they had a relative on a ward but it was well past visiting times. It was very odd I thought.

That seems really bad BYO I'd be tempted to raise it with the hospital somehow (but I quite like that sort of thing when I'm not busy). Like I said, the pediatric A&Es near us have security in place to stop that and with the drunks in the main A&E I think that's quite important. The wait areas always seem quite child focused (even though the large family groups mean there are normally far more grown ups than kids).

I called an ambulance for Dd once when she was 13 months.

She had woken up with a cold that day and had been off in herself all day.

Came to bed time and she had been crying non stop for 4 hours. Come 11 she still hasn't settled so out of desperation we called an ambulance.

They came out and said its probably nothing but our policy is to take them in if they are under 2.

At first we were on our way to the OOD when we noticed she was sucking in her breath as opposed to breathing.

So we went straight to a and e where an X Ray shows she had severe bronchilitis.

She had to have oxygen and a nebuliser plus a cannula in her foot with anti biotics. We was kept in for 4 days.

Sometimes, there are time wasters in a and e. Other times people are desperate and don't know where to turn.

I felt terrible calling an ambulance for Dd but we didn't drive, had no transport and was at a complete loss of what to do. Luckily we did the right thing

Gwenneh I did that last time I was in lol. Some people bought a herd of family in, with a full on packed lunch. I thought ffs. If you have time to make butties it is not an emergency

Ok so going back to the original post as we experienced sometging similar. Infected wound started spreading into skin. Just needs ab cream. Pharmacy wont prescribe. No walk ins. Gp closes at 8 so you cant phone out of hours gp til after 8pm even though you cant get a gp appt anyway. No emergency gp appointments. Phone gp in the morning. Cant get on phone til 8.10. In queue 8.10-8.20. Then all appts gone. Its a pain in the bum. If you leave it too long you get cellulitis.

We got a phone appt 2 days after but i can see how people give up and go to a+e
