UmbongoUnchained · 16/03/2016 18:55

I pay 9.99 a month for now TV with the sky movies package.

MrsJayy · 16/03/2016 18:59

Give it a few months get it back for £20 a month thats what i did

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 16/03/2016 18:59

If you have any friends or family with a sky subscription, they may be kind enough to give you their password so you can download the sky go app. It wont cost them anymore as the app can be downloaded to several devices at once.

Sorry if someone has already suggested this idea!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 16/03/2016 19:01

Mrs J is right, sky will throw loads of offers at you now to go back to them at v. low prices.

MyFriendGoo52 · 16/03/2016 19:10

I can't even justify 20 a month tbh. Bloody skint.

Could scrape together a fiver a month for now tv tho, so long as I can get sky 1, fox and atlantic i'll be happy.

I'm telling you Goo, buy yourself an android box. You will have no need for a tv subscription and will be able to stream all of the movies and tv shows that you want FOR FREE!

YouTheCat · 16/03/2016 19:15

You can get those channels. It connects through the hdmi port on your tv and via ethernet to your router.

Beware though - if your broadband is limited you're going to probably incur extra charges.

lighteningirl · 16/03/2016 19:19

I got rid of sky in Jan and got a TiVo box from virgin free for a year its absolutely crappola yesterday sky ran g and offered me my same package back free til October then only £12 a month dh cried with relief and we have made a pack to never give up sky again. We missed the boxed sets most we've got Netfilx but Sky Box sets are better.

ScoutsMam · 16/03/2016 19:27

Putlocker is brilliant, free and free from viruses. I don't even have a tv wired up and we NEVER miss Walking Dead. Watching the latest episode tonight with a bottle of wine.

Terribleknitter · 16/03/2016 19:34

Second the android box/Firestick and Kodi. You'll have all the zombies you want for nothing!

Terribleknitter · 16/03/2016 19:34

Well, not for nothing, you have to buy the Firestick but that's it.

Ready123 · 16/03/2016 19:51

Now TV and Netflix together have almost everything I want to watch. You can watch the whole of the latest season of The Walking Dead on Now TV so don't worry!

Ready123 · 16/03/2016 19:51

Ps I highly recommend an Apple TV box - that's how I watch almost everything now!

ALemonyPea · 16/03/2016 20:01

You can download Now Tv onto a lot of devices, including PS4/Xbox and you get 28 days free entertainment, try it and see if you like it, will help make your mind up.

I cant recommend one enough. Best thing we did, getting rid of the cable and getting it.

MyFriendGoo52 · 16/03/2016 20:04

Can it be downloaded onto xbox 360 ?? I have one gathering dust !

OP posts:
Nightwish · 16/03/2016 20:07

You can get a Now TV box from Tesco Direct with a 6 month entertainment pass (Fox, Sky Atlantic, etc.) for £40 (I got it for £25 on offer last week) or I think it is on Amazon for offer soon.
We have literally just done the same, our sky ends tomorrow so we are set up and ready to go on the Now TV box.

Obs2016 · 16/03/2016 20:08

Sky will probably phone you up and beg you to come back for £22 instead of £60.

Lostinmysoul · 16/03/2016 20:10

The current pattern with sky appears to be: cancel contract. One week later they call with an offer, refuse that. another week, another offer etc. The third offer should be 75% off. Some offers come in the mail, some by phone and others you see by logging in to your my sky account. Have cancelled today to get a better deal!

Option 2 is to keep an eye on Top cash back, and be a 'new' customer (different email) or Quidco. Wait until there is good cashback and a free gift - £100 vouchers normally. You get a new box as well so you can sell the old one for extra £

If you are watching just Now tv or downloads, do you not have to pay for a tv licence?

BillBrysonsBeard · 16/03/2016 20:22

I second Putlockers, and also Couchtuner. Everything I want to watch is on those and they are free. No issues streaming and no viruses! Unlimited Daryl Wink
Coral!! Grin

MyFriendGoo52 · 16/03/2016 20:23

When I ditched sky the lady offered me free unlimited internet so long as I keep landline with them. Think my bill for landline and internet will be £12 a month since I ditched calls package (( only have phoneline for internet ))

SleepyBoBo · 16/03/2016 20:36

We use a games console for Now Tv, Netflix, Iplayer etc. The only thing we miss from having the tv plugged into the ariel is Challange! Now TV is great - can use it on up to 4 devices, I'm going away soon and can watch it on my tablet (was terrified I'd miss the Walking Dead finale!). We don't pay for a landline either, just pure broadband.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 16/03/2016 20:41

Have you tried couchtuner? I use it all the time and have honestly never got a virus.

CateNoviceBaker · 16/03/2016 21:03

I've recently cancelled Sky and I'm now happily using Netflix, Amazon Prime and NowTV. I've got 6 months entertainment package so I can watch Walking Dead, Blindspot, Blacklist, The Strain and 100 Code. The only one missing is Sleepy Hollow but I'll watch that when it becomes free on Amazon Prime.

I also bought 2 months movie pass for £10 which was on offer on Paypal recently.

I've got the Roku box and it's so fast its like turning a channel over to switch between the 3 streaming services. I can't record but I can still binge watch because programmes stay on demand for a while. The picture quality is much better too with streaming, imho.
