AIBU to let 16yo DD travel to France for a summer school?

Our DD wants to carry on learning French in the 6th form and is really keen to boost her language skills over the summer. She wants to go to a language school in France for a couple of weeks.

She's not keen to go to one of the teen summer language 'camps' where she would be at the older end of the age range and would be under constant supervision from the staff. So, the only option would seem to be a course at a language school combined with her staying with a host family. She'd have to make her own way to/from the language school each day.

Does this sound like an unreasonable arrangement for an unaccompanied 16-year old? She is normally very responsible but hasn't travelled independently before.

Amazing opportunity for your dd, let her go.so long as you check all details and are happy. My ds wanted to do a school trip (OK, Slightly different) to Kenya 2 years ago and first reaction was no way. He went to Tanzania in the end due to conflict in Kenya, had a totally amazing experience and came back a different child. He was 14 at the time. I now have a very happy well balanced teenager who appreciates what he has in life. Like I said a bit different scenario, but let her do it. Harder for you as you have the worry until they are back in your arms.

When I was in sixth form (year 12 I think) I went to France with a group of sixth form students from my school and others. I can't remember the name of the organisation that took us I'm afraid. But maybe there are still organisations that do that kind of thing?

On this company website they say that 16 year olds can join the regular adult courses or the courses for 16-18 year olds. Looks like they might provide accommodation too.
