Is my Eurovision party cultural appropriation?

Every year we have a Eurovision party. We dress up in costumes of host nation (or famous people from there) and try to cook a typical dish of that country.

In the light of balls being banned at Oxford and Cambridge for "cultural appropriation" eg Around the World in 80 Days theme, am I too guilty of this crime? Confused

What is the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation ? Also, as I am part-European nation, am I allowed to dress as someone from this country as it's my heritage?

It's a minefield.

So as long as you have genetic heritage it's ok to take on the culture, how far back does this go out of interest?

I have my 23andme genetics and way way back my ancestors came from NA/ME.

Good point. All of us come from the first humans in Africa.

VertigoNun What was it like getting your genetics done? Do you get a detailed report? I'm worried I'd find out a genetic risk for some disease, which would cause me to become paranoid!

You find out if you have neanderthal ansestry, certain drug sensitivity, genetic predisposition to certain conditions and famous people with a similar genetic background. I was prepared for bad news I would rather known.

You can then move the information into livewello and learn more.
