To really not like kids' tops with writing on them?

I was in the Moorgate branch of Next today and was having a nose through the kids' tops. At least half had some slogan or other form of writing on them, which tends to make them completely undesirable to me.

This sort of thing

and this

and this

and this

It might just be that this particular store finds it more profitable to stock tops with mottos on. However, if this is the case then I find it surprising. Once you've removed all the stuff with mottos on, there isn't all that much left to choose from. AIBU?

Not to my taste, although DS has a t shirt that says "Have an awesome day!" that I like, as well as a t shirt he chose with penguin with a speech bubble saying "hello". He does have vests with some slogans because I'm not so bothered if they're inside.

op don't worry. Yes this topic has been done before. You know what? It will be done again and again. The topic is new to people whose kids are new to it.

I don't see threads on conception or school application or moving house and think 'this topic again'. The topics are new to people who are new to it. Want to discuss it. Why shouldn't they?

If we only posted things that hadn't been discussed before on mn we would all grind to a halt.

Also dd2 is (3) and tbh just for a quiet life l tend to let her pick out her own clothes and most of it is character stuff, Minnie Mouse, doc mcstuffin, paw patrol ect... I once bought her a lovely plain yellow jumper out of H&M and for some reason is was offensive to her and she has faught like mad woman refused to wear it if I got it out. I tell folk not to buy her clothes as gifts as if she doesn't like it, it won't go on.

Some times my dd looks a bit odd with what she has got on but she is happy!

OneMagnumisneverenough · 14/03/2016 08:04

Chocolate :o
I have teenage boys who would rather that I laid out their clothes.

Chocolatteaddict1 · 14/03/2016 08:17

one I have one adult Dh who would have me do the same GrinHmm

I think dd2 (3) is heavily influenced by her older dsis (20) and her obsession for a bloody clothes show every morning. Girls are way more independant!

Girls are way more independant!

So I believe :) I have two boys and eldest at 15 and over 6'2" would still have me carrying him about, washing and dressing him and feeding him from a spoon if he got half a chance. 14 year old is a wee bit better.

14 year old at least understands that if I ask them to get ready to visit granny or go out for a pub lunch that means a pair of jeans and a nicer t-shirt/polo shirt. If I say the same to my eldest (trying to not tell him exactly or lay it out for him) he'll come down in a pair of jersey shorts and gaming t-shirt that he's had on for 3 days and then I have to tell him exactly what he should wear. I've tried saying long trousers but he will then come down in hiking trousers or tracksters.

Not a fan of slogans and logos personally. Another bugbear is pockets on baby clothes. What are they going to put in them? But then at what age do pockets become practical on kids clothes?

OneMagnumisneverenough · 14/03/2016 10:55

kids should never have pockets imo, they just fill them full of stones, mud, elastic bands, tissues, pencils, erasers, bits of twig, beetles, orange peel, apple cores, lego, milk carton tops (chewed) and any bits of general street detritus they come across.

Well, they can have them in their coats I suppose so that they can bring home their litter, but nowhere else.

Or was that just my children?

Oysterbabe · 14/03/2016 11:27

We got given a newborn size babygrow with pockets. I guess it's to put all her stuff in; phone, oystercard etc.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 14/03/2016 11:33

Maybe baby stuff should come with huge pockets for all the stuff the expect us parents to carry for them, nappies, wipes etc. and the lazy little feckers can cart it about themselves? :o

backonthewagon · 14/03/2016 11:50

I don't like waistbands on little babies either. Not sure if they might be ok for sitting or crawling babies.

CruCru · 15/03/2016 15:06

Ah Blush. I popped into the Next at New Change and - it was lovely. Had loads of lovely things without any characters or writing on (although plenty with). It seems that the stock put out depends hugely on which branch it is - I'm surprised that they were so different though, there isn't much difference between Moorgate and St Paul's.

Ah that's good to know CruCru - I am glad I said that the stock was completely different at my store - I thought it may have come across as implying you were lying but wasn't meant to. I live in the sticks and we don't have many choices so I guess they have to cater the biggest variety as there is literally not another branch for about 30 miles and ours is not big to start with and doesn't stock anything past age 12 for kids so if you have a teenager you have to order on-line only.

Katarzyna79 · 15/03/2016 15:16

I hate them on older kids but on wee toddlers look very cute. I used to get them for my son 9 years ago when he was maybe 1 years old. But now they seem like theyre a bit dated.

I do like the "i love mummy and daddy" baby grows though look adorable on new borns ; I'm getting a set!

Katarzyna79 · 15/03/2016 15:17

oysterbabe lool no silly its for the dummy of course!

HostaFireandIce · 15/03/2016 15:36

When my baby was born, his aunt and uncle gave him a babygro with 'Lock up your daughters' on it. Like he was a tiny little rapist. Hideous.

Sophia1984 · 15/03/2016 16:34

Ha! That made me laugh Hosta! Did you do the 'take a photo for gift giver then return to shop'?

I am currently in love with the newborn stuff in M&S, particularly a set I saw with little cats on.

Katarzyna79 · 15/03/2016 20:56

hosta Shock ROFL

HostaFireandIce · 15/03/2016 21:39

No, he never wore it not even for a token photo. It mysteriously got mixed up with some stuff going to the charity shop. Shame, that.
