to not know how to get to/from the airport?

We go away in June. Me, DH, DS(will then be 20m), DF and DM.

I am totally stuck on getting to/from the airport.

Easiest option - Train £80 return for us all. Fine. But coming home, we land at 00.50 and the first train back is at approx. 04.22. Bollocks. So thats 3 hours from landing time to getting the train. Say 1 hour to collect luggage, still leaves us stuck in a cold train station at that time of night with DS.

We have an estate car but we cannot all fit in with the luggage etc. Plus, DH doesnt really fancy being knackered and having to drive home.

So, taxi. Probably the same cost-ish as the trains but no child seat for DS?

Any suggestions? I can't see any way other than the train :(

Jelly Somewhere up there ^ amongst the piss taking, I said I think we will and probably take our carseat as hold luggage.

Some of the helpful posters made me realise we can take the carseat as hold luggage/ask the taxi service to mind the seat for us which I never realized, having never been in this situation before. I appreciate their helpful advice.

Yes your husband is being ridiculous for not wanting to drive from Manchester airport to Huddersfield in the early hours of the morning and thus causing all this drama.

Unless of course he is a nervous flier and will need a drink on the plane.

cjt110 · 09/03/2016 15:34

No, i dont think he is. But we are all entitled to our opinions Exit Smile

You're the only one who has used the words "shit drivers" OP. IMO you should both get some motorway lessons, get a grip and start using them in the day and night because one day you might have to and what then?

cjt110 · 09/03/2016 15:35

imonaplane 4 adults and a child my dear

But then you refused to pay £ 60 each way for the taxi!

cjt110 · 09/03/2016 15:35

Fairy He happily drives on motorways but on this occassion doesnt want to. Shall I force him to?

I believe some taxi companies (bookable ones) provide car seats.

cjt110 · 09/03/2016 15:36

I dont know if £60 is dear/cheap or what Jessie As I said, I've called one company who have quoted that and will call round for other prices.

My Dad used to pick friends up from the airport - at all sorts of stupid o'clock. I still think they were taking the piss.

cjt110 · 09/03/2016 15:37

Mumma I'll give them a look up but likely take our own seat I think but thanks :)

no need to just pick me out - i was highlighting how amusing this thread is.... just my opinion....

imonaplane · 09/03/2016 15:39

You are not responsible for your parents my dear! My parents used to come with us but were capable of getting themselves to the bloody airport !

TheFairyCaravan · 09/03/2016 15:39

You said he "didn't want to drive on a motorway at night". So does he just not want to or is it because it's going to be dark?

umizoomi · 09/03/2016 15:41

Him not driving is making your situation more difficult than it need be. I don't know anyone (including my mum at 70) who wouldn't just load up the car and drive home from Manchester, Leeds or East minds ( -around 60-90 mins from us) if it was from Heathrow or Garwick after a flight from the US I would get it, but thus I don't. So drive on the A62 to Ashton and cut out the M62.

A Volvo estate too, that will be easy to get everything in. I have always bough nappies, wipes etc abroad too - Dodot in Spain are pampers

cjt110 · 09/03/2016 15:42

I wish we could just say to someone "Come and pick us up" I cant see people wanting to do that thought at the silly time Sad

OP posts:
JessieMcJessie · 09/03/2016 15:43

Actually, no, at no point did you say you'd ring around other companies and pay £60 if that turned out to be reasonable. After you got the quote you said you were "stuck between a rock and a hard place" which implied that you weren't prepared to pay it.

RudeElf · 09/03/2016 15:44

I wish we could just say to someone "Come and pick us up"

I bet you do!

Time to be a grown up and organise your own transport. It really isnt difficult. YOU HAVE A CAR RIGHT THERE!

AliciaMayEmory · 09/03/2016 15:45

"Imonaplane* apparently it's not in keeping with the 'family holiday' to take responsibility for getting oneself to the airport. They must all travel together...

JessieMcJessie · 09/03/2016 15:45

Well, it's not like you'd ever be able to return the favour by driving to the airport on the motorway to pick them up from their hols is it?

CrazyDuchess · 09/03/2016 15:45

and how does someone picking you up change the million and one obstacle you have put in the way... are they likely to have more space given that you are then adding another adult into the mix??

OP your posts are just ridiculous

RudeElf · 09/03/2016 15:47

Who would pick you up that will have 6 seats and space for all your luggage that apparently wont fit in a volvo? And for free i presume?

TheFairyCaravan · 09/03/2016 15:47

Grin Jessie

NerrSnerr · 09/03/2016 15:48

June is ages away, why not get some practice in and drive yourself? In the early hours the motorway will be empty and it'll be easy. Or is there a route off the motorway you could drive?

RudeElf · 09/03/2016 15:49

I know. 20 month old can drive and grandad can go on the roof rack.
