I know it's a bit gross. My mum kept mine and my brothers. I've got dd's in a pretty little box, hidden away. Aibu? Or just a bit weird?! HmmBlush

I was clearing out my jewellery box at the weekend and found what appeared to be hundreds of baby teeth. My youngest is aged 18 now! They were gross and i chucked them all out.

I just inherited my grandmother's jewellery box, which had a tub of my fathers teeth in. He was sat right by me so I gave them back to him. He put them in the bin.

There may be some scientific basis behind the desire to hang on to our children's baby teeth. They contain stem cells which may be used in treatments that are still being developed for all sorts of illnesses.

Although apparently sticking them in an envelope in a drawer is no good - you have to pay lots of money for them to be cryogenically frozen and stored...

Bottle bleach, so if I cryogenically freeze DD's teeth, That would be considered more normal and less weird? HmmGrin

Mine don't smell! they're still pretty whitish also. (but we were never allowed sugar as children.)

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 08/03/2016 22:31

I'm laughing at the photos of the teddies with the teeth I know what I'm getting dd for her 21st now and I will have the camera ready to take picture of her reaction

UterusUterusGhali · 08/03/2016 22:38

I have most of their teeth and the cord stumps, although their mixed up now. :(

DS has lost most of his teeth at his dads though. I was going to ask for them but might not now in case he thinks I'm weird. Confused

Sparklingbrook · 08/03/2016 22:42

I kept them all religiously for both DSs in little envelopes. Then I came across them when the boys were very much older and thought ewwww and put them in the bin.

But keeping them at the time they were falling out seemed perfectly normal. Confused

G1raffe · 08/03/2016 22:50

Eeeeewwwwwwwww. I had no idea people did this?! Why!?!? Do you get them out and look at them..

What about the tooth fairy?!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 08/03/2016 22:56

Can you get DNA out of teeth?

BottleBeach · 08/03/2016 23:34

Well Mummydearest, possibly by the people receiving your annual storage fee Wink

BeaufortBelle · 08/03/2016 23:39

Yep, kept both lots of mine in pretty little boxes. Deposited by the tooth fairy soo carefully. Then years and years later we moved, I peeked, eew. Why, just why did I p them? Straight in the bin - those little precursors to the real thing. GrinGrin. And I mean goofy, toofy grin !

TheNoodlesIncident · 09/03/2016 00:16

I'm sure the baby teeth have a lovely and natural appearance in photos of your dc, why would you need to keep the actual teeth??

And I agree with what Calvin says: Here

SunsetSinger · 09/03/2016 04:56

I thought it was normal! My mum kept mine. They didn't smell and they stayed white. Just a cute little keepsake like the locks of hair she also stuck in our photograph albums.

I remember a little girl lost her first tooth while we were playing at the park and she and her mum spent ages looking for it. I just assumed everyone kept them!

Out2pasture · 09/03/2016 05:10

3 kids. saved all that I could. mainly in case they wanted to see them after the tooth fairy took them (i'm all into education). they never asked.
eventually we moved and I had to decide pack or garbage, I had saved them for close to 30 years!!!
I binned them I didn't think the kids would be amused come the day I pass away and they have to go through silly little trinket boxes of baby teeth.

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2016 06:38

Yes you have to think of all the DC doing the house clearance after their parents pass away and find all the teeth and think 'yuk'. Off to the tip.

SeasonalVag · 09/03/2016 07:01

My son has only lost two, but I made him write the tooth fairy a letter, talking about what he gets up to etc and we wrapped them up for the fairy...a mini time capsule if you like?

My husband is from another country where we currently live. The tradition here is to keep all the teeth and when you have them you bury them with the umbilical cord stump and plant a tree. The tradition is that if you bury them near your family home you will always come back. My husbands are buried down the river behind our house. We built our house two years ago when he moved back to his old town!

The lack of apostrophe suggests you have committed a crime Shock Wink

'My husbands are buried down the river behind our house'

tomatodizzy · 09/03/2016 20:31

Grin ...it's a hard life! Tablet typing is not my strong point. that's my excuse

BennyTheBall · 09/03/2016 20:38

Is it weird?

I have kept my dc's baby teeth in their 'baby boxes' which also include their umbilical cords (I accept that is odd), and little baggies from their first haircuts with all their tiny curls.

My mum is weirder - she's got all my impressions from the orthodontist and my extracted molars, and my old braces as part of that process (aged 13).

Disclaimer - I keep pretty much nothing else, apart from cards,

I think it is really mean to pick up on grammar - I just had to because it suggested you had killed your husbands haha!

TheVeryThing · 10/03/2016 09:22

I have kept them and I honestly don't know why.

My brother found his when he was a kid and had a great time playing with them - necklaces made from teeth for his action figures etc. Grin
