How is the least U way to leave a thread on MN?

So, I have a rule about people being wrong on the internet. I am only allowed to argue with them as long as I have nothing better to do in real life (sitting typing into my phone at a dinner party is right out), if it isn't actually upsetting me or making me angry (life is too short) and if I feel I am actually making a positive contribution (so if I'm not changing anyone's mind and they aren't changing mine it seems pointless to keep flogging the dead horse).

This means I periodically do pull out of threads but I'm never sure what the most polite way of doing it is. Do you say "well, thank you for this but I won't be replying any more?" I sometimes do this but it always feels a bit like flouncing which is bad. Or do you just mute the thread and stop replying? Is it rude then to ignore hypothetical people who might be talking at you?

Which is U? And what other options are there?

Sometimes I wish people would text "bye" so I know it's over

A million times yes!!!

I really hate having my words twisted, and I will go and go and go. But lately I have decided life is too fucking short, so when I have had enough I just stop posting.

SilverBirchWithout · 05/03/2016 12:32

I usually say what I want to say then wander off. Isn't that the joy of a forum like this?

Last weekend, someone said that something I had posted was the worst thing they had ever read on MN. I am proud that I didn't respond, but I haven't forgot them or their serious over reaction.

Haha. You taught me to split posts Maryz.

BadLad · 05/03/2016 12:54

Type "I'm hiding the thread now or "I'm going to bed now" and then do no such thing.

Thornrose · 05/03/2016 12:54

OP where did you go? Wink

UnGoogleable · 05/03/2016 13:03

Is OP experimenting with leaving her thread?

Tabsicle · 05/03/2016 13:06

No! I should do, shouldn't I? See if anyone notices.

UnGoogleable · 05/03/2016 13:30

Well we would notice, given you're the OP and the nature of the thread Grin

However, back to your original question, if you're just posting on another thread then no, no one would notice (nothing against you, just anyone)

Also, looking back at your thread title - the least unreasonable thing to do is do nothing. i.e. don't flounce, don't announce anything, don't argue, just leave the thread.

StitchesInTime · 05/03/2016 13:44

I think as a general rule it's fine to just leave the thread without mentioning anything.
