To think this was a little strange?

Went to pay some money into my dd's bank account today. I had lost her passbook, so took id and asked them to do me a new book. Lady behind the counter looks at her computer and says "that's odd, I have a signature for you daughter on the account". She shows me the screen and there's mini musketeers name written as a signature not in mine or my dh's handwriting. My DD is 3 and we opened the account with both dh and my signatures on the account when she was 6mths old. Now neither of our signatures are there and this weird one of "hers" is....

Is that weird?

Yep, I checked there were no transactions at all. And made sure they removed the mini musketeers signature from the account. But it's really odd? How can that happen?

Could it have been a grandparent doing it on a day they had DD with them?

So they had removed yours and your husband's signatures too? They must have a record of which staff member did that and why. Very weird.

I doubt it rude GP's wouldn't know about the account or which bank it was in.

Yep anthony apparently they are going to look into what happened. I'm sure it's a clerical thing nothing sinister but it's very very odd.

Why would anyone make up a signature for a 3 year old?

That's a bit odd but possibly a reasonable explanation. Did they make a suggestion as to how it's happened? Confused

I can maybe see how yours and DHs signatures were removed by accident (wrong account number typed in or wrong name spelling or something) but to actually have your DD's signature of her name added on is not an accident! Someone created that signature.

caught yes they are. I'm going to pop in next week and see if they have discovered anything and check the signatures are back to normal.

I wondered that too. Whether they had managed to get the one we can't find. There's a fair sum in there. All still there when I went in today.

You say you lost the passbook? Perhaps someone has picked it up and used it to register a new signature?

Personally I would be tempted to get an Internet account that does not have a passbook.

That's what my dh thinks happened too.

We probably should capsium, but the old school in us, wants to be able to present her with her little book when she gets old enough. I will just be better behaved and storing it in its proper place from now on !

I used to work for a bank and there is no way that this could be a 'clerical error'. It sounds like deliberate fraud to me. I imagine the accounts in your name re her name. In which case it requires your signatures and they would have to have your signature on file, they would have checked her age etc and would not have put a signature of a 3 year old on file. I would make a formal complaint if I were you so that they have to investigate and get back to you (within 8 weeks) and then you can take it to the Ombudsman if you are unhappy with their response or if they haven't responded.

Thanks hormonal I will go back to the bank this week and see what's happened and put in a complaint.

When I opened accounts for DC when they were smell,the signature on the account was mine as their guardian, not signed as them on their behalf if that make s sense?
When you opened the account didnt you sign as your name?

Yes cake, when we opened the account both DH and I signed for it. Now neither of our signatures are there and "hers" is.

I have now put my signature on, and removed "hers"

Definitely needs further investigation then, something has happened that isn't quite right. Only people with signatures on the account should be able to access and make changes to it. How very strange.

Have you ever 'lost' dd for half an hour or so? Has she ever been playing quietly in another room for a bit? Do any of the bank staff remember a 3 year old in mum's high heels and lipstick smeared all over her face coming in to amend details on the account? Grin
How bizarre, do they know when the signature was changed? I'm with Barclays and dd has an internet account linked to mine that they say I can get a passbook for later, when she's old enough to see it and know what it means. Might be worth seeing if your bank does the same?
