I've been going since 9pm and I'm exhausted. But can't sleep as I can't take my usual painkillers so in agony too.

Lorelei - I would also love to know why. I was born and grew up in the same part of London I currently live in. The only difference being that the population is ten times greater than it was.

I can only assume that it now circulates the area and the local schools on a yearly basis, and having 2 school aged children that is how we pick it up. It still baffles me that I never had this as a child or during my teens though. I can only remember vomiting once aged about 10, and that was so odd for me it's a memory permanently etched into my brain.

I had norovirus for 6 days when I was 5 weeks pregnant 😩 Felt awful between throwing up and shitting. Then thr following week I had the flu 😩😒

grannytomine · 04/03/2016 10:43

You poor thing. I had it before Christmas and I can honestly say in all my 62 years I have never felt so ill. At one point I was lying on the bathroom floor thinking of how I could kill myself as I just couldn't stand it any more.

The added joy was 3 grandchildren were staying as parents away for the weekend. by the time they got back the first GC was vomitting so we decided to keep them with us rather than pass it on to parents. I spent the next 3 days clearing up vomit, changing beds and washing their clothes.

Never again, please God never again.

Angelos, the poster going to the hairdresser has a cold not Norovirus?

Rose, ah, so it's children, that's what I thought. I don't have kids, just as well, as I had noro for nearly five days and my doc was worried I needed an IV. NHS have updated their website to show how long it can last.

Good thing about last few mild winters, no noro outbreak!

lorelei9 · 04/03/2016 10:46

Granny we cross posted....every year I worry about my folks catching it...they are late 70s. It was bad enough to deal with as a fit healthy 39 something, I shudder to think what it would do to them.

lorelei9 · 04/03/2016 10:46

That should say 30 something sorry!

doughnutslikefannys · 04/03/2016 10:47

I had it three years ago and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, I thought I was dying. I did lose half a stone and keep it off though - silver linings and all that Grin

BrainWillingBodyNotSoMuch · 04/03/2016 10:48

Well I've finally finished throwing up but not the other end. Both dc have been dispatched to nursery and school.

I've worked out where I've got it from. I was at the local hospital on Wednesday. Thankfully I was on my own and only started being ill after the kids had gone to bed. I stayed out of the way this morning and all door handles and bathroom has been cleaned. Just now keeping my fingers crossed.

No I don't have norovirus! Just a stinky cold. God, when I did have norovirus, I stayed in bed for three days - I could barely walk without wobbling over!

I did get a few hours sleep, and the hairdresser is plying me with coffee, so I kind of feel a little bit human now.

Hoping everyone feels a damn lot better really bloody soon Smile

You poor thing. Norovirus is evil. It's floored me the last two years running and normally my immune system is a beast. Two pieces of advice. Dry and salty snacks are the way to go (cheese twists are the only thing I can stomach) and Sudocrem is your new best friend. Also blackcurrant Dioralyte tastes so foul it makes you puke more. Hope you feel better soon. Oh btw disinfect all surfaces and remotes/door handles etc because it lives for days on them and you CAN catch it twice. As we found out the hard way.

Wardrobespierre · 04/03/2016 18:18

DS has had it this week. Our house is 47% laundry and 53% bleach. And my hands are raw and bleeding.

He's only 4 so has been really distressed. Miserable virus.

Get well soon op.

Birdsgottafly · 04/03/2016 18:29

"" It still baffles me that I never had this as a child or during my teens though""

The Norovirus that is the most common since 2012, is a stronger 'new' strain, some of the strains started in 2009.

There are a few flu viruses that are also getting stronger.

grannytomine · 04/03/2016 21:43

Lorelei, I am in my 60s and it really knocked me about, I agree with you that for someone in their late 70s it would be pretty devastating. Although grandsons, 11 and 8, got it after me they got better much faster. The two year old didn't get it at all.

You can imagine what it was like dealing with two days of 11 year old vomiting closely followed by 8 year old when I was feeling so sick myself. I suppose I should have sent them home but I felt guilty that they had obviously caught it from me so thought it was better to contain it and let parents get on with work.

I have the three of them staying for a few days this weekend so I am hoping history doesn't repeat itself.

Alexa444 · 04/03/2016 22:11

Bird That makes sense actually. I'd never had a sickness bug in my life until 2 year ago, then the last couple of years it floored me. I was considering going to the drs about it even.

Wardrobespierre · 05/03/2016 09:52

That is interesting. I wasn't sick at all from being a small child until March 2010 when I was 29. I assumed it was having a small child and renewed exposure but I've had noro without the dc having it too. 4 times in 5 years, always in March. Local schools close at this time of year for deep cleans because it's so common.

My 90yr old grandma has just come down with it, as have most of the other residents of her care home.

thedevilinside · 05/03/2016 10:31

It wasn't so prominent when we were young, as people didn't socailise in the same way. These days it's constant playdates, parties etc, baby groups from a few weeks old - people don't obey the 48 hour rule, and the virus spreads.
