To think recruitment consultants are shit and wonder why companies use them

Currently looking for a new job. I've seen a few advertised that look interesting and tried to get more info from the named "exclusive" recruitment consultants handling them. However, they are never available over the phone and don't respond to emails. I can't go directly to the companies who the roles are with as they're all advertised anonymously. How are they supposed to recruit for roles when the recruitment consultants ignore potential applicants? So bloody frustrating!

Also, why are consultants so crap at getting back to you after interview? I had an interview recently and it was indicated I'd hear today. Low and behold, I've heard nothing and the RC hasn't responded to my email (I assume it's a no and he can't be bothered to tell me).

So, AIBU as per thread title?

Totally agree with OP ( they're useless!)

I sent my CV to lots of Recruitment Agencies after seeing job adverts.

No response.

A local one advertised a vacancy that I was interested in so I went into their office, rather than email. This was on a Friday and they arranged for me to go back on the Monday for an interview.

During my interview I was informed that the job I was originally interested in was no longer available. The client had changed their mind, they said.

They took all my details and asked if I would be available for any other work. I said yes, (as was just looking for something to earn money)

Next day they rang me (I didn't pick up straight away,) so they left message. And rang again later and when I did talk to them had a grumble that I hadn't answered immediately as they had work available.

The work available was not what I'd applied for but I said I'd give it a go and duly took the details.

What happened next is a whole new story but yes basically I agree with OP that they advertise pretend jobs to reel you in or just ignore you.

Would be very interested in a RC's side of the story!

Agree that they seem to advertise non-existent roles - i contacted one RC last week about a role and was told they couldn't discuss it with me without first seeing my CV Hmm. I'm not actively marketing myself (I have a job, but fancy a change - I'm a lawyer) so wasn't prepared to send a CV without knowing if the role was of interest. I'm pretty certain it didn't actually exist.

isitginoclock did you miss the bit where I said they never answer the phone? I most certainly am not looking for someone to hold my hand but if RCs don't respond to calls or email how are they supposed to recruit properly?

Anyway, after all that I eventually heard that I'm through to the next round, so that's good Smile
