Am employed as a social worker . Qualified 1990 .love it , the challenges and trying my best to get the best outcomes possible for people .
I do a lot of work in a legal context and feel much responsibility - quite rightly - to get it right.
Recently I've been feeling mentally worn out - am considering doing something different like work in a garden centre .
Any sw s out there changed jobs to something completely different - with less responsibility etc and if so , how did it turn out ?
Thanks .

Social work must be more challenging than many occupations Flowers Within it though are there fields that could be a little easier?

Have you done all the usual recommended self care, building up a support network kind of stuff and / or had help if it's affected your mental health at times?

Ask for a year's career break? You sound like you love your work, perhaps a years recharge is what u need

Duck - no I have got out of those habits !! I'm seeing my boss later in the week - he may be able to invest in me trying to support myself but he seems v stressed on the phone about how pressured he is and how he needs to manage the team - which I do understand .

I too am a social worker. I am just contemplating giving up working completely. Life is too short for a high level of stress with a low level of pay and never, ever any acknowledgement when things go right, only abuse when it goes wrong.

Pounding well done re your measures ! I can't seem to leave the stress behind and am like a too tightly wound clock at the mo ! Will think about what you have said !!!! 😄
