She's attacking women's size and shape again saying that a model (Ashley Graham) is obese and that plus-size women are unhealthy and thus should be removed from public view. Ashley Graham appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition.

"EC is not a lithe woman."

This is not an entirely unfair point. I have just Googled EC out of interest following this thread, and having seen pictures of her in her swimwear on IACGMOOH I would be surprised if there was more than half a stone's difference in it between her and AG.

Perhaps if she is so concerned about chunky women being seen in the public eye, she should lead by example and remove herself from public view.

This is why it's not always sensible to apply population measures to individuals. The model is overweight, no doubt, but she clearly has an enviable body shape which could mean (I say could, because again, populations) that she is not carrying a lot of dangerous visceral fat.

I'm not sure what people should take from this. I mean, tbh I'm a similar shape, but short (and atm thinner, but not always). On the one hand, it's great to have a model who represents reality more, but otoh is you're an apple (as my mother is), it's not sensible to assume that you're A-ok just because someone hourglass shaped is the same weight as you.

Having said that, I do not stress being at the higher end of the BMI spectrum. DP is much lower, but would be 'fat' at my BMI.

merrymouse · 01/03/2016 21:26

She isn't representing a new trend. Sports illustrated have no interest in representing normal women, even if Ashley Graham could be said to look like a normal woman.

Magazines and fashion designers aren't about to start using curvy models because it is easier to make clothes for somebody who doesn't have curves.

Yy to that Grin

If we're talking about health, then Ashley Graham is perfectly healthy (from what I can tell from her stats, I'm not her doctor). While her BMI classifies her as overweight, from the look of her (and I say this as someone who looks a lot like her, but 3 inches shorter and a size 14 Uk) I'd say her Muscle to Fat ratio is healthy and her waist to hip ratio is healthy. Both of those scales are far better at measuring individual health then the BMI. So people can cut it out with the concern trolling, Ashley Graham is in no more danger of Type II Diabetes then a person half her size. She is healthy and she advocates a healthy lifestyle.

If we're talking about beauty, She's flipping gorgeous!

MattDillonsPants · 02/03/2016 08:04

She looks more like a 16 UK. I'm a 14 and nowhere near that big.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 03/03/2016 13:28

That model has a healthy body shape. She's big in the hip/thigh area and her waist is small in comparison. Much better than mine and I am a size 14. I have a stomach although legs and arms are pretty slim. I'm working on it though.

EC is an arse.

ShortandSweeter · 04/03/2016 16:02

Healthy? Surely not.

shamonts · 04/03/2016 16:38

She does not look healthy to me.

HelenaDove · 04/03/2016 17:14

YAWWWWWNNNN

P1nkP0ppy · 04/03/2016 18:24

Edwina Curry - pot and kettle comes to mind. She's at least a 14 herself.

ReallyTired · 05/03/2016 08:19

There is a market for size 14 clothes so why not use a model to sell them. The reality is that plenty of women have a less than ideal weight and swimming is a good way to improve fitness.

feellikeanalien · 07/03/2016 11:07

What is this obsession with "shaming" people? Most people who have problems with weight or other issues are usually aware of it and don't need strangers slagging them off publicly.

Sad reflection on our appearance obsessed society!
