To wish singers would bloody enunciate?

I don't really listen to modern music, but was just in car and Rhianna song (apparently called 'work') came on the radio.

It was so dreadful, I actually shouted at the radio. And I understood about 3 words she said. Why don't singers enunciate anymore?

I find the same with Ella Henderson and the many many breathy wispy-voiced songstresses.

Is it just me?

I blame Elvis.

Lottie2611 · 27/02/2016 20:28

Rihanna isn't singing proper English in that song anyway -'Work, work, work, work, work, work
He said me haffi
Work, work, work, work, work, work!
He see me do mi
Dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt!
So me put in
Work, work, work, work, work, work
Ner ner ner ner ner ner!
When you a gon' learn, learn, learn, learn, learn!'
Surely that's the point of the song? She is from Barbados.Hmm

PiperChapstick · 27/02/2016 20:30

Fair enough lottie for the words inbetween the first verse mumbling, but the entire song was mumbles and she doesn't seem to realise there's a 'k' in work

its her accent though. same as Bob Marley's jamaican patois is difficult to understand sometimes. its not a modern thing.

Lottie2611 · 27/02/2016 20:34

Again, she's from Barbados.
If it was an indian man, or a woman with a Scottish accent singing a Scottish influenced song. Would there be a thread about her not pronouncing something in perfect bbc english. Doubt it.

PunkrockerGirl · 27/02/2016 20:34

Yanbu.

Crinkle77 · 27/02/2016 20:40

Adele is the worst.

Lottie2611 · 27/02/2016 20:40

I know it's a lighthearted thread lol. Just putting it out there

middlings · 27/02/2016 20:42

I spent 25 seconds watching the voice this evening and then switched over for this very reason. That's 25 seconds I won't get back.

FedoraTheExplora · 27/02/2016 20:42

It's patois. Hmm

Lottie2611 · 27/02/2016 20:43

Yes. Let's skate Bob Marley for not singing in perfect queens English GrinWink in not sure the songs would be the same if they were.

I can understand Bob Marley no problem. I probably did that 80's 'read a long with the lyrics' thing as a teenager though!

I am 41 so statistically beyond middle aged.
I am wearing Boden jeans right now.
They are very nice indigo straight leg ones.

AdrenalineFudge · 27/02/2016 21:29

usual Grin, I'm awaiting a thread that slates Rihanna's style of dance as basically clothed pornography.

I hate UK people singing in American accents. Robbie fucking Williams take note!

NewLife4Me · 27/02/2016 21:43

My dh and dd do a pub singer version of adele's songs.
You have no idea what she's talking about.

Maybe it's artists that have never received any training, or poor teaching.

Ariana Grande singing her hit "One Less Problem" reminds me of Vic Reeves' performing his club singer question in Shooting Stars. Drives me mad!

GreatFuckability · 27/02/2016 22:10

Ariana Grande does sing like she has some kind of speech impediment. I agree on that one!

PrimalLass · 27/02/2016 22:17

Ariana Grande singing her hit "One Less Problem"

I just keep shouting "One FEWER problem" at her.
