DD is reading me Swallows and Amazons.

Every time she reads the name 'Titty' I want to snigger.

IA so NBU!

What about Here Comes Bod with his Aunt Flo?

TwllBach · 27/02/2016 20:17

Ahhh I remember having to read the owl and the pussycat to a year two class. I caught my TAs eye once and knew straight away that I couldn't do it again GrinGrin

I had an unfortunate spoonerism moment with Hunt and Can't when reading Bear Hunt to DD once. That was the last time I read it.

yy to faraway tree characters and apparently some of the more sexist stuff has been changed too (boys help their father in garden whilst girls help mother in kitchen) I got copies of the originals from charity shops - changing them is trying to rewrite history...
I have never read swallows and amazons (not a book I think of getting for DCs either -maybe I should?) but when DD2 was little DP used to call her 'ttiti' (he's French, can't remember if it is common or he 'made it up' but it was basically a kind of shortened form of petit and maybe something else)
He was most upset when I asked him to stop - I thought if it was his nickname for her, at some point, someone from school would find out and it could lead to a whole host of piss taking....(he does occasionally slip up and call her it- not all the time...)

The Faraway Tree names were definitely updated.

Titty will become Tatty in the new SaA film remake.

Giggling, remembering walking through the graveyard of an old church with DS, who was reading the barely decipherable inscriptions on the gravestones in reverential tones....

Here lies my dead wife Mary Ellen.......

He was so pissed off as I threw myself around in hysterics...Grin.

Ah, memories of volunteering in school and teaching the children how to put back books in the library properly.

"This one is by Enid Blyton. Do we shelve it under Enid, or Blyton? And this one might be hard. Do we put it under the Smith, the King or the Dick?"

Couldn't look at the librarian.

We watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks with DS today. DH had to leave the room when one of the characters asked 'what's that got to do with my knob?'

Grin

On another note, we were reading Dr Doolittle and the appalling racism in it is scary. DD doesn't seem to have noticed I've stopped reading it.

Titty is mild in comparison...
