Was invented by Satan!!

I swear trying to strip 1 wall of the bloody stuff with a gazillion years worth of paint on it took all afternoon !!

It's evil I tell you!!

WIBU to burn the house down to get rid of it! ( I promise I won't really!) There's sooooo much of it

My parents put woodchip on newly plastered walls when I was a child. They did something similar when they had an extension a few years ago and had lining paper put up on the walls to paint over. I think in their minds it's just wrong somehow to paint directly on to plaster. I remember lying in bed as a child and using my fingernails to pick pieces of wood out. I got absolutely bollocked for that!

The excellent plasterer we've just used has just plastered his whole house and is paying for someone to put lining paper over the lot. He says that painted plaster looks wrong.

RhiWrites · 26/02/2016 09:37

It is the worst. My house came with wood chip throughout! Every single room - except the bathroom which had regular wallpaper which peeled off the week we moved in.

15 years later we have fought it back out of all but one room.

YakTriangle · 26/02/2016 11:05

Yanbu, it's bloody horrible. The previous occupant of this house had even put the sodding stuff on the ceiling of one room Shock

MangoBiscuit · 26/02/2016 11:13

I've done this in 3 and a half rooms now (other half was tiled) The next one I am saving up and paying someone else to sort out! Bastarding stuff.

Paintedhandprints · 26/02/2016 12:06

We had this when we moved into our deceased property. Also polystyrene tiles on ceilings and mirror tiles on bathroom walls. Good job we're not superstitious cos we would have eleventy million years bad luck removing those. Lovely avocado bathroom suite with matching carpet, walls and ceiling. Confused

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 26/02/2016 12:44

Another one used to pick at it as a child! It was in every room except the kitchen when I was little, living room got done when I was about 8, the bathroom got done after I left home, bedrooms all still wood chipped!

MuffinMaiden · 26/02/2016 16:20

It's evil stuff! The ceiling(!) of my living room is covered with it, but it's lath and plaster underneath so it'd be a massive pain to remove.

SmallGreenBouncyBall · 26/02/2016 16:24

yabu
it's miles better than flowery structured poly foam wall paper.
or hairy textile wall paper.

My Mother's house is a vision in woodchip and anaglypta wallpaper with layers and layers of paint on top. It also has polystyrene tiles on the ceilings in the living and dining rooms ... I already feel sorry for whoever buys it and needs to renovate/redecorate.

My mother's house was like this too. Unfortunately, we're the ones who bought it.

All long gone now, though. I will never again have anything but plastered and painted walls.

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 26/02/2016 17:59
