to think MN should get into the 21st Century instead of pedalling sexist shite?

Massive sigh at the 'Mumsnet swears by' email. Suggestions for Mother's Day presents:
Scented shitey formaldehyde polluting candles
Hair brushes!
Cookery Book
Perfume
A coat
Bath shit stuff
Hand cream, nail varnish, flowers, shite....
Maybe some books mentioned if you look hard enough.

So that's all you can think of?? Looking pretty, cooking and smelling nice afterwards??

Can you seriously not think of something less 1950s?
I went back and looked at suggestions for Father's Day presents - and while they are still stereotyping they at least look a bit more "fun":
Whiskey, Game of Thrones Box set, pans (wow! irony?), craft beer and Stephen Fry book.

How about celebrating your mother being a person? Not some domestic goddess serf mashup.

Oh and don't get me started on the blaze of sexist shite cards - paraphrasing "Mummy thank you for cooking, cleaning and wiping my arse for the last fifteen years - here have a "day off" and smarten yourself up a bit"

/end rant

I want a slightly sexist Mother's Day present. Yesterday I had such a sharp pain in my chest I nearly called an ambulance out. Turned out it was the underwire in my ONLY 'really properly comfortable' bra. I would really like a new one. As punishment, I would be happy to burn the old one... Straw poll on whether it is acceptable to ask for one for Mother's Day?

Also, SpartaCarcass please tell me more about these scooters, I really want DH to get one to make it quicker for him to get takeaway and do other errands for me. Is this a swish, zippy motor scooter you're talking about or an adult Mini Micro? Budget probably only extends to the Mini Micro type but I'm unsure about whether kids in the park will laugh and throw rocks at him or if he will look super cool. Thank you in advance! .

Flowers for you Sugar. Mother's Day must be really difficult.

IonaMumsnet · 24/02/2016 20:19

SpartaCarcass - thanks for the link! £70 is a lot but that would shave ten mins off his journey to the station at home I reckon, and at least 15 off his journey at the other end. Would quickly save that in taxis. He really would feel like a knob getting in a cab with that.

Plus... what price a warm takeaway, eh? (DH doesn't drive. I could, of course, get off my proverbial and get it myself I suppose, but that's another thread).

IonaMumsnet · 24/02/2016 20:29

sugar - EXACTLY. And he already has form. But that's not for here.

slightyglitterbrained - yes, I know! That's why it's so bad. I've clearly decided subconsciously that I don't even need comfort in a bra. I'm WAY off deserving a pretty candle! Also 'thinking bigger' could be an issue... If you have any comfortable industrial scaffolding I'm interested.

Worra that is amazing! He'd get at least three bottles of wine in there, too! SOLD.

The best gift is surely 'daffodil made from eggbox at playgroup painted in mustard yellow poster paint'. I would love one of those actually. It's a classic. Can't go wrong.
