Why wouldn't they substitute it for corn starch?
I know there's no definite evidence that talc causes ovarian cancer but there've been persistent concerns over the years and recent compensation award.

OP posts:
OurBlanche · 25/02/2016 09:05

Ye gods! Yes, some of us do! Without using the daft euphemism Grin

BartholinsSister · 25/02/2016 09:25

How long until they announce the dangers of cornstarch?

OurBlanche · 25/02/2016 09:30

Already done, Bartholin, if eaten, not worn Smile

G1raffe · 25/02/2016 09:36

So how do you use it? Doesn't it spray talc all over the floor? If it's because you're sweaty doesn't it mix and form a paste?

Presumably this is a whole area I've kissed out on (like people doing bras up at the front and swivelling, or wiping arse standing up!)

merseyside · 25/02/2016 09:40

Talc is for anywhere with sweaty crevasses, ergo ideal for "lady gardens"

Branleuse · 25/02/2016 09:42

i think it contains talc because its talcum powder

OurBlanche · 25/02/2016 09:43

Nice typo, G1rafe Smile

Now I am confused, do you do your bra up behind your back? That is really weird.

Application: talc in hand, apply to 'potentially sweaty crevasse' - it's as much about prevention as cure. And no, it doesn't clag up, it's designed not to! That's what talc is for! Smile

CoteDAzur · 25/02/2016 09:48

All you need to know re talc safety.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 25/02/2016 09:54

I've use talc in swimming hats too. I'd vaguely heard it wasn't recommended for babies but thought it was OK otherwise. I think I'll carry on with swimming hats but will be more careful to tip excess out.

merseyside · 25/02/2016 10:12

Cote that article is an eye opener in terms of how scientific tests are done on animals (and dead babies...)

I'm confident that it's safe and will continue to use it

OurBlanche · 25/02/2016 10:12

Smile Cote. It starts well, "The CIR Expert Panel assessed the safety of talc for use in cosmetics and found that it is safe in the present practices of use and concentration; talc is reported to be used at up to 100% in cosmetics"

FatimaLovesBread · 25/02/2016 10:25

Ourblanche I know you keep repeating that you use it for rubbing knicker elastic, but surely that is the groinal area where the top of your legs meets your pubic area rather than on your vulva. But this I mean inside your labia majora if you don't like euphemisms.

I think that's what people are displaying confusion about why you'd need to use it on your fanny. My fanny doesn't tend to come in to contact with knicker elastic unless I'm wearing a thong maybe

OurBlanche · 25/02/2016 10:29

That was the point, Fatima. Someone, a non talc user, said vagina. None of the self confessed talc users have said that they use talc inside vulva or vagina. And the word fanny may also be the confusion.

merseyside · 25/02/2016 10:29

Right so in your personal area rather than up yer hoo ha?

I think that's fair enough...

OurBlanche · 25/02/2016 10:30
Grin
G1raffe · 25/02/2016 10:40

Haha ourblanche! Id not seen the typo. That's funny. I feel the need to buy talc having never bought it before...

feellikeahugefailure · 25/02/2016 11:54

Gosh i didn't for a second think anyone puts it up their who ha, please tell me no one does that?!

Do people put it around their balloon knot?

CoteDAzur · 25/02/2016 11:57

Not sure if I dare ask "Where in the female anatomy is the 'balloon knot'?" Grin

Bunbaker · 25/02/2016 20:42

It has simply never occurred to me to use talc anywhere other than my feet or armpits. Anywhere else doesn't feel right.

AppleYumYum · 25/02/2016 20:57

Micah yes I thought it wasn't great to breathe in either, never mind the fanny area. As other posters were saying, talc should not be used on babies because of this, hence the introduction of corn starch. Even when I switched to using mineral make up I read that it isn't always 'healthier' than the chemical laden foundations as there is the potential of breathing in microparticles when swishing around on your face.

J&J stuff are the harshest baby products on the market, they keep going based on the nostalgia of it being the thing to use when we were all babies I think.

QuestionableMouse · 25/02/2016 21:01

I think a balloon knot is your arsehole.

G1raffe · 25/02/2016 22:39

feet and armpits??

Sofiria · 25/02/2016 22:52

I was told as a child in the 1990s to use talc all over after I had a bath. I remember that it sometimes hurt when I put it on my vulva but I was told 'no it doesn't, don't be silly' by my mother.

This thread has me quite worried.

Bunbaker · 25/02/2016 23:03

G1raffe Feet after swimming - so I can put my socks back on, and armpits when I want to epilate.

G1raffe · 26/02/2016 06:45

I really need to buy some talc. How does it help with getting socks on?

It's funny how people assume their uses of talc are what "everyone" does or are obvious. I've not used it so it's all bizarre to me (bra thread and loo wiping thread similar effects buy at least most people wear a bra/wipe their arse, the whole talc thing passed me by)

So is it safe for me to buy talc and experiment on feet and bra lines and pants lines or was the point if the Thread that it's something Not To Be Used?
