to wonder what on earth I did to prompt this reaction (driving related)

I was just driving DD home from school, a journey I do every single day. I was driving down the local High Street in slowish moving traffic, probably 15-20 mph max. I did notice that a big white X5 was behind me all the way down the street. I then signalled to turn right into a side road and moved to the crown of the road. Suddenly, I heard a loud, aggressive BEEEEP. I was puzzled as I knew I'd performed a very normal manoeuvre that I do every day so turned round in time to see the X5 go past with driver guestering at me aggressively (the windows were tinted so hard to see the gender). Unless I'm being really thick, I've no clue what I did wrong. I signalled in good time, the traffic wasn't moving quickly and my positioning didn't prevent them from passing me. I can think of nothing I did prior to turning off to provoke such a reaction as I was merely driving for less than half a mile along a straight road at normal speed for the flow of traffic. I did note down the number plate as I half considered reporting them for intimidating, aggressive driving (but probably won't).

SO, is this person a massive dick or am I a shit driver???

Just remembered the time I was at a double mini roundabout. I was on the first one and a woman approached from the other one honking her horn at me and speeding up. I was already on said roundabout therefore my right of way. Some people think they own the road.

The most terrifying journies I ever made was with both xh's who drove like arses, doing the whole tail gating, gesturing, swearing despite my calm talking, my shouting and my years at being petrified about being in the car with them.

When you spoke to them later after they had calmed down they still refused to believe they had done anything wrong and used to make my life hell I I said I wasn't getting back in the car with them.

Note they both became xh

Do you drive a small car?

We have two cars, one a fairly large family saloon and the other (mine) a nippy little car. I drive faster than DP, but given I am doing a lot of miles right now, I'd found it doesn't fucking matter. What matters is if I'm in the teeny little 1.2. Foot down in the 1.2 and I'll have fuckwits up my arse flashing and beeping. 5mph less in the big car and nothing.

I am probably projecting massively here tbh, but my experience in getting me (awesome, sporty little car) and also driving DP's trundling saloon has been that people act like arseholes for no good reason. And in my case, quite a few like to 'bully' the small car for no other reason than it is a small car.

Honestly OP, I'd just chock it down to 'arsehole'.

It drives me mad, this type of behaviour. I pulled out in plenty of time in Morrison's car park on Sunday and some twat put his foot down to catch up with me and honked the horn for ages Confused
It's just completely unnecessary and I actually find it unnerving and I'm hardly a delicate flower
Your horn should only be honked as a warning.
I really can't remember the last time I used mine
Oh I can Blush
I accidentally pipped it when behind some horses Confused
I was trying to turn the stereo down as it was on quite loud.
I wound my window down to apologise and the woman said 'don't toot at the ponies, thank you' v cross my Angry
,I was mortified!

I had this last year driving a tractor Shock going along a straight road with visibility of at least 2 miles ahead, another tractor behind me which was far enough back to let a car in between, pulled to the crown of the road indicating right just as an Audi overtook the tractor behind me and decided in his wisdom that he could go past both of us! Whether he just didn't see my flashing light or indicators (which were all working) I have no idea but he bounced his car off the front wheel of the tractor as I was turning with enough force to break the it's axleShock

Car landed 20 feet backwards in the hedge on the wrong side of the road, tractor was stuck across the road and blocked it for 2 hours while it was recovered.

Police were called, car driver blamed me not signalling, tractors shouldn't be on the road and as a woman I was in able of operating heavy machinery safely.

Turns out not only was he uninsured, the car belonged to his sister and he'd taken it without asking and he only had a provisional licence ConfusedShock

The police took great delight in throwing the book at him!

I have to say, living in agricultural county has been an eye opener to how badly people drive in the country. We have no end of accidents on our lane. I've even started threads about it! They've introduced some traffic calming measures which do appear to have worked with 'most' people

Once I had a 4X4 come up behind me while I was stuck behind a bus. We all stopped at a red light but as it was a busy city road there was no opportunity at the time to get around the bus. I knew I would not be able to get past until it stopped further along the road so just followed behind it. This 4X4 tried to get past us, making gestures etc but there was no way round or I would have done it myself.

Once I passed the bus, I carried on as normal then a bit later had to stop at a pelican crossing to let someone cross. My eye caught on the rear view mirror where this car was coming up behind me way too fast and he went into the back of me. He then got out of the car and started screaming obscenities at me and being threatening. Luckily we were in public and some blokes standing outside a nearby pub told me I had done nothing wrong and seeing them there he backed off. He then asked me not to report it to my insurance company.

I went straight home and reported it. When his Uncle, who actually owned the car, called to try and settle things outside the insurance company I told him I had called them but had his nephew been more polite and a decent person instead of being abusive, I might not have called them Grin

Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

I was driving my soft top BMW at wholly legal speeds on the local dual carriageway. The car in the outside lane kept encroaching into my lane, I dropped back a bit, in case she wanted to pull in. She didn't and again encroached, really close, so I beeped.

As we pulled alongside each other at the roundabout she, get this, held her hand up and mouthed 'sorry' - I did the the only thing I could, I smiled and waved back!

Terrible manners. What was she thinking??!!??
