To ask if low salt cheese exists?

Ok so I know IABU posting this here... But would so appreciate your replies! So far I've thought mozzarella, emmental, cottage cheese. But are there any others or any brands that are low in salt? Shopping yesterday and every cheese apart from those were so high! Would love to find a cheese I like that's also OK for baby as she looooves cheese! Thanks all

I wouldn't worry too much. We get too worked up about salt. Most of our problems come from heavily processed junk food and ready meals.

If baby likes cheese, let baby eat cheese (obviously in moderate and appropriate amounts). Give her lots of different varieties as this is a great opportunity to stretch her palate.

Feelike do you mean that dairy is harmful to small children? Do you have any links?

"Labneh" is pretty good. It is a middle eastern cream cheese.

You can make it overnight in the fridge. You just add 1/2tsp of salt to I 500g tub of greek yogurt, stir it really well and then drain it in a muslin.

To drain it, tie the top of the muslin/cheese cloth with string, put it in a sieve over a bowl and put something light on top of the cheese (like a mug).

Then you know exactly what's in there and only minimal salt.

Paneer is unsalted.

Swiss cheese.

Good question op! I worry about the salt content in cheese too for my little one. Plus the fact that he has infant gaviscon which has sodium in it.

Tescos do a lower salt basic cheddar, we use it for DS who is just 1 and loves cheese.

I have never ever worried about salt in cheese literally didn't realise I was supposed to!

Just don't use salt elsewhere.

I googled and mature cheddar tends to have 1.8g per 100g with 1g being the recommended for children up to 1 year. So she could have 50g (more than you think!) and still be within limits.

Aldi do maasdam pre sliced cheese that is only 1.2 per 100g. DD loves it.

As long as your baby's diet is relatively low salt over all I wouldn't worry about finding low salt cheese. In moderation in line with a balanced diet it should be fine.
