What is the deal with John Travolta's Face?

FATEdestiny · 22/02/2016 21:17

Have you seen it? And his voice

What is the deal with John Travolta's face? Is it part of the make-up for his role in the OJ Simpson program, or is his face actually like that now?

His voice sounds really odd too. Is that for the role or is it to do with his inability to move his face properly?

Tell me I am not the only one to notice this.

Mortified?
I'd be beyond furious if my relation's murder was turned into a joke.

Cutecat78 · 22/02/2016 23:27

That too..

LifeofI · 22/02/2016 23:27

Plastic surgery

Cutecat78 · 22/02/2016 23:28

And that woman smoking all the time - just keep thinking she must fucking stink .....

Tink06 · 22/02/2016 23:28

I still can't tell if it's terrible plastic surgery or make up so he looks like Robert Shapiro. I agree with all the other comments - so bad I'm loving it

Destinysdaughter · 22/02/2016 23:30

Can't take David Schwimmer seriously either, it's just Ross from Friends!

Iwantmymaidennameback · 22/02/2016 23:43

Might have known the Kardashian Ks would have levered their arses(no pun intended) into it somewhere.
JT is so like Robert Shapiro, it's uncanny, and very good acting. If anyone can remember watching the OJ trial at the time, they will recognise how accurate JTs performance is.
Cuba as OJ, no idea who thought that would work. It really needed someone like Samuel L Jackson or Laurence fishbourne who played Ike Turner so menacingly.
All I see with Cuba is "show me the money".

Iwantmymaidennameback · 22/02/2016 23:44

Oh and David Whatserface.....really, I mean , Really???

FATEdestiny · 23/02/2016 10:41

There is absolutely no case for the Kardashian children having a place in the story. Maybe a very passing mention, but they have featured several times. Just commercialism.

I agree with PP that the victims family seem to have no place in this show (maybe they will later?), yet they can find screen time for the lawyers ex-wife's children - I mean really?

I am watching because I am genuinely interested in having an over-view of the case. I was a teenager when it all happened and while I recall it being in the news and whatnot, I don't actually know the details of the case because I wasn't into current affairs when it was happening. I still now don't know why he got off. I am hoping I shall learn by the end of the series.

Well the Kardashians have no qualms about being on show, perhaps OJ's children have got some legal order in place that bans them from being depicted?

madamginger · 23/02/2016 14:09

He got off for political reasons. It happened just 2 years after Rodney King and the LA riots.
He's in prison now anyway for something else

Tram10 · 23/02/2016 14:15

He absolutely looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger with a trout pout.

He has been getting progressively weirder looking now for years.

LemonBreeland · 23/02/2016 14:15

I haven't watched the second episode yet. I think David Schwimmer looks quite good as Robert Kardashian, but sounds terrible and is not acting it well at all. Agree Cuba is terrible as OJ. He just doesn't have the right personality.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 23/02/2016 14:24

He made a good Edna Turnblad though Grin

I'm quite amazed it's 10 episodes though, they're really spinning it out.

What is the deal with John Travolta's Face?
DrDreReturns · 23/02/2016 14:31

OJ is soooo guilty of that murder. The evidence against him is overwhelming. I used to be a forensic scientist, I remember reading a resume of the case, there's no doubt that he did it. In this country he'd have been sent down without a doubt.
This might be a controversial opinion, but he was acquitted due to the terrible state of race relations in the US. To quote Robert Shapiro, "Not only did we play the race card, we dealt it from the bottom of the deck."

RainbowDashed · 23/02/2016 14:31

I am LOVING this programme. It's so bad it's good. Looking forward to the overacting in the courtroom scenes.

Was Robert Kardashian as drippy as Ross David Schwimmer he's being portrayed?

JT looks dreadful I agree.

AlpacaMyThings · 23/02/2016 14:42

I can vaguely remember the news showing the 'white Bronco' driving down the freeway(?), but that was before 24 hour news, so I'm interested in seeing the whole story - from the Simpson side - as an adult.

I don't think it was made to produce perfect casting - its just portraying an event, and I the Kardashian children bring in a modern day connection ('Chris Jenner' was in last weeks episode).

Jjou · 23/02/2016 15:13

I have to confess to loving this show so far, but Travolta and his frozen face is very alarming.
Not sure what to make of Cuba as OJ, or Ross as Kardashian either. I did ROFL at Ross proclaiming to OJ's family that he'd committed suicide...way to jump the gun dude.

absolutelynotfabulous · 23/02/2016 15:24

John Travolta in this is the very image of Leonid Brezhnev circa 1972.

I had reasonably high hopes for this programme but it's soooo hammy. Yes, I think Travolta produced/directed it.

I can't believe that, with so much potential, the bloody Kardashians have to somehow be dragged in. As if they don't get enough publicity. And Robert Kardashian is SUCH a drip. I'm not getting his role-is he supposed to be an attorney or a friend?

GloGirl · 23/02/2016 15:25

I think I have established what I am going to watch when I have a free weekend. It sounds just on the right side of shit.

What channel is it being shown on?

DrDreReturns · 23/02/2016 15:31

BBC2 GloGirl

absolutelynotfabulous Kardashian was both an attorney and OJ's friend.

Katedotness1963 · 23/02/2016 15:32

I thought it was just make up for the part?

FATEdestiny · 23/02/2016 15:33

BBC1 Monday 9pm

You'll have to watch the first two episodes on iplayer

DrDreReturns · 23/02/2016 15:40

Katedotness1963 no he was OJ's real life friend and also a lawyer.

GloGirl · 23/02/2016 15:42

Cheers FATE

Yes I vaguely remember being connected to OJ was how the Kardashians fame began in the first place. Even more tenuous than Paris Hilton having a rich Grandfather.
