Neighbour's house viewing and children's party

Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I really think my neighbour is BU, but I'd like outsiders' viewpoints.

There are three houses on our small cul de sac. Mine's in the middle. The couple next door are trying to sell their house (the other family next door are away on holiday).

Today is my six year old's birthday and her party was this afternoon at the house.

I told my neighbours, a few days ago, that there would be a lot more traffic and noise than usual, and they seemed to find that acceptable.

This morning, the wife called round and asked if we could postpone the party, as someone wanted to have a second viewing of the house at 2pm, which was right in the middle of the party. She asked if we could have the party next weekend instead. I said that wasn't possible because a) everyone was invited b) the food was all ready and c) DD would be extremely disappointed!

She said I was being "Incredibly inconsiderate". I'm really, really annoyed about this. They've always been very self-important, but this takes the mick, doesn't it?

How bizarre. They shouldn't have had to cancel the viewing, because they shouldn't have arranged it during your party in the first place!

It's very kind of you to warn your neighbours of a party in advance, I wish everybody was like you.

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 21/02/2016 19:42

Wow. Cheeky, self centred pair of loons!

Hope you've got a big Wine and some left over Cake to eat.

Hopefully they'll sell soon and be out of your life. Poor oblivious new neighbours of theirs tho!

Quietwhenreading · 21/02/2016 19:45

Clearly they are stressed and desperate to sell but who on earth would think that cancelling a six year old's birthday party was even in the same neighbourhood as a reasonable request?

Why did they cancel? Why not just postpone until 5pm?

OhforGodsake · 21/02/2016 19:45

You'll be glad when they've sold up and gone OP!

EweAreHere · 21/02/2016 20:04

Hilarious. What self-centred fruitcakes you have for neighbours.

Frankly, I'd print out this entire thread and put it through their door. (And then change my username.)

Northernlurker · 21/02/2016 20:04

You need to borrow a few rusty cars and a van for builders who specialise in subsidence repair. Park in road at all times.

BalloonSlayer · 21/02/2016 20:09

If I was viewing a house I'd be reassured seeing a children's party/Santa stop here signs that the neighbours were a nice normal loving family and not, say, a bulging houseful of drunken students.

Doubleuponcoffee · 21/02/2016 20:13

Ha ha ha ha ha that's brilliant

DancingDinosaur · 21/02/2016 20:14

Pidapie · 21/02/2016 20:19

Whaaat, what a ridiculous request. Pfff!

pinkcan · 21/02/2016 20:20

What assholes!

coffeeisnectar · 21/02/2016 20:21

Utterly bonkers.

I have an old washing machine if you'd like it for your front garden.

OttiliaVonBCup · 21/02/2016 20:24

Gloriously bonkers.

Go on, get some garden gnomes.
You know you want to!

thebiscuitindustry · 21/02/2016 20:28

Yes, gnomes and assorted hideous plastic garden ornaments Grin

OttiliaVonBCup · 21/02/2016 20:32

I really want another instalment of this! It might be worth pointing out to them that they should try to play nice as they have to declare disputes with neighbours when selling! The spiteful side of me would have bought all sorts of tatty shite and stuck it in the front garden after asking to take dd's sign down. How mean.

SpinachJelly · 21/02/2016 20:45

Mole hills .. ?

Andrewofgg · 21/02/2016 20:48

Entitled isn't in it. Glad the party went wel.

Viviennemary · 21/02/2016 20:48

The party was arranged and couldn't really be cancelled. I think your neighbour had a cheek even asking. What you do in your own house is up to you. She could easily have put her viewers off till the next day.

MajesticWhine · 21/02/2016 20:54

Totally bonkers. Have they absolutely no idea how much effort goes into arranging a child's party? And why would it put off potential buyers?

MidniteScribbler · 21/02/2016 21:12

I'd put the Santa sign in my front garden now and refuse to remove it. That will make their heads explode.

thebiscuitindustry · 21/02/2016 21:17

And a big plastic Santa! Or at least an Easter Bunny sign.

FlatOnTheHill · 21/02/2016 21:21

Neighbour sounds nuts. What a bloody cheek
