I honestly do go to effort every day to feed him well. But many meals get refused at the moment. Today, for various reasons, I have decided to have an 'anything goes' day. I thought it might be interesting to see how bad it really is, and how it compares to normal.
So 2yo is eating fir lunch today:

  • 2 chips with a tiny amount of cheese
  • a packet if pom bears
  • 2 dried apricots
  • one piece of dried apple
  • packet of raisins
  • sesame/ honey bar
  • water

Looks v bad written down! Feel free to tell me IABU to feed him such rubbish!

Salt Salt Salt
Sugar Sugar Sugar Sugar
Water is good, that's something at least Smile
Everything is processed. It's just a load of snacks.
Doesn't he eat non dried fruit at all?

Giles-Mine will no longer entertain eggs at all. A whole plate of beans on toast (a favourite) was rejected as it had been contaminated with some scrambled egg. Last week dipping his toast in some soft boiled egg resulted in a tantrum so red and snotty that he had to be relegated to the playroom to cool off.

I noticed that a lot of my friends whose dc are in nurseries said that they give them a large cooked meal at lunchtime and a more sandwich style tea. Tried it with ds. Same shit different time.

Agree it sounds like a lot of sugar due to the dried fruit but as a one off nothing to worry about.

I have a 2.3 yr old DD who is getting fussier and fussier too. What is good one day is rage-worthy the next!

Today she has had a hot cross bun for breakfast - usually always porridge, fruit or toast though as she won't eat any type of cereal. Eggs if I've got time.

Lunch she's had spaghetti hoops on toast.
Usually though I do a small sandwich (contents never eaten, only the bread) or homemade muffin, cucumber, cherry tomatoes (which she never, ever eats but I keep trying) and a bit of cheese. Sometimes a dippy egg and soldiers or soup.

Tea tonight is fishcake and mixed veg. She usually has what we have with varied success but she gets very cross if she sees she has something different.

Snacks she's had breadsticks and a couple of chocolate buttons. Usually I'd give her a satsuma or other fruit but need to do a shop!

Hard work isn't it!!

He's 2. It's food,he's eaten it.

It's not play doh or boot licking and I'm assuming none of it went up his nose.

Relax

Honestly, don't battle him. Just keep offering, and chill out about it as much as is humanly possible. I mean, don't just shrug your shoulders and feed him only beans and nuggets and freezer food, but remember that your job is to provide him with nutritious stuff, and his job is to eat it (or not). Battles and cajoling do nothing but add drama to it all. Eat with him as much as possible.

I don't think that day's food is terrible as a one-off. I haven't eaten any better today left to my own devices! Grin

God my 3yo DTs were buggers at that age. They always ate a good breakfast and dinner but lunch was hit and miss so often was just bread sticks, fruit and ham. God forbid they eat a bloody sandwich lol.

I wouldn't give quite so much dried fruit but as a one off it's fine.
If he likes peanut butter buy the sugar free kind, meridian makes one that is just blended peanuts. Mine love almond butter and it is a bit sweeter but bloody expensive and will dip apple/bread sticks in it.

Struggling with ds 2.5 lately, he has gone from being great with most food to barely eating a thing some days.

His main staples at the moment are:

Marmite or peanut butter on toast;.
A yoghurty probiotic type drink or a Frube;
Raisins;
A banana;
Heinz pasta shapes with toast;
Soup and bread;
Dippy egg and bread;
Lasagne;
Toasted waffles or pancakes;
Cubes of cheese;
Smoothies.

This is basically all he will eat on rotation. He's growing fine though, sleeps like a dream and has bundles of energy so I like to think he's getting whatever he needs!

You make me feel so much better!

Last night DS had for dinner:

About 8 cubes of cheese
A slice of raisin toast
A pear
Dried cranberries
One mouthful scrambled egg
A small ginger cookie (soft)

And that is a good night for him!
