To spend a fiver on ds friend birthday

Ds best friend is 11 next week & they're going paintballing

I'm skint though & can't think of what to get him, there is a massive difference in income between us & them Blush Lovely family I'm sure they're not expecting too much but what can I get that won't be embarrassing for ds (or me)?

Box of Maltesers and a fiver would be fine - in fact I'd be chuffed with that on my birthday!

MadisonAvenue · 17/02/2016 21:32

An iTunes voucher?

The start at £15, which is so annoying. They'd be perfect little present for teenagers if they were cheaper.

Do you know anyone who has "the book people" or suchlike deliver to their workplace? Can get some really nice hardback books for a fiver from them. I managed to get DD's friend "star wars - everthing you need to know" for £5 at christmas. He was thrilled and it was £18 in waterstones.

£5 is a fair spend imo

Madisonavenue, Tesco do three £10 ITunes vouchers in a pack which are usually £30 but have 20% off at present

Nothing wrong with spending £5. A mum clubbed together with another single mum and put £10 in a card for my son. She apologised to me and I felt really embarrassed that she thought I would be anything other than grateful. She said other mums had spoken about her in the past for 'only' giving £5.

I do think you can find things half price if that makes you feel uncomfortable - Amazon is good, tesco and hotukdeals. This t shirt is £1.25 over budget with delivery but would be a cool pressie as they are paint balling. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00K6FOJS8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1455753454&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=boys+presents+age+11&th=1&psc=1

At that age, cash was the BEST present my dc ever got.
Honestly, a fiver in a card is perfect.

VimFuego101 · 18/02/2016 00:32

A fiver in a card sounds fine. I wouldn't get a book unless it's something you know he's into.

Yeah I agree with others, £5 in a card and a bag of haribo or similar. DS2 (12) took a mate a £3 box of Maltesers for his birthday.

I have never forgotten a time DS1's mate said he wanted Match Attax and chocolate - got him a big bar of Dairy Milk (about £1) and a few packs of MA (then about 50p each) and he said it was his best present!

Thank you everyone I appreciate your thoughts

Gosh I know exactly how you feel. I was the same at the beginning of the year with a friend's son as they have a lot of money and make around 100k a year. In the end I just got something I thought he would like and thought if the family thought bad of me it said more about them than me! Fiver in the card at that age is fine!

I know they do, but you can't actually go into a shop and pick up a single iTunes card with less than £15 on it. Such a pity that they're not loadable with any amount, like normal giftcards. I'd quite often like a £5 to add to a gift I was giving.

£5 in a card is pecfect. I have an 11 year old. He LOVES cash. (I have taught him well)

TooMuchOfEverything · 18/02/2016 16:22
