To think its not weird to collect dolls at my age?

I'm 35 this year.

I'm a big fantasy/fairy tale/magic fan, i love fairy tales and am a big fan of Alice In Wonderland and so on, this isn't a secret, i'm a hippy/goth/rocker and my house is full of dragons and fairies, there is even a massive sun catcher sticker on my front window of a dragon

I have started collecting some of the "Ever After High" dolls recently, specifically the Gothic style ones and ones relating to Alice in Wonderland. Yes i have watched the animated web series.

My friend called me weird because i asked DH to get me a couple as they're reduced from £25 down to £10 in Smyths right now, and he bought me Raven Queen and Kitty Cheshire.

She came over today and saw i had them, still in their boxes on a shelf and asked if they were for DD and offered to take them out for her.... i of course corrected her, told her they were mine and they were NOT being taken out of their boxes. The others i own are on a display shelf in my bedroom.

Apparently, its weird, and creepy and i should give them to dd to play with.

wth?

These are gorgeous agirlforalltime.co.uk/

I have DD has the Tudor one, it was cheap as chips here and is stunning.

I'd love the Georgian girl but full price is £££.

I We also have all the Tudor clothes. And the dog.

I collect loads of stuff. Im a huge film geek. Most of my stuff is marvel merch but I collect other things too.
Although I have to admit I went to my neighbours house and she knits dolls for herself. There are about 300 in there all just sat around the whole house staring. THAT was weird.

Sorry, but I think it is weird! I don't "get" collecting things like dolls or mugs or Star Wars figurines or whatever. However I'm sure we all do things / have hobbies that other people think weird so if it makes you happy carry on.

BopToTheTop · 16/02/2016 20:30

It's not weird to me, I do have quite a collection of the limited edition Disney dolls though, as well as a smaller collection of some of the Disney figures

Growing up I was never really interested in dolls, looking back I think it was because I thought they were only for playing with and couldn't be displayed

The way I see it is that there could be worse things to collect or the money spent on!

Nope not weird. Some people like figurines, china etc i'm alternative too, i have a huge collection of mlp, old books and living dead dolls. Yes some people probably think it's weird but i couldn't give a toss.

When I was a kid I desperately wanted an At-At. My mother, ever the liberal parent refused as star wars wasn't for girls (my dear old dad had snuck me to the cinema to see empire strikes back).
My dh knew how much I'd wanted this toy and one year bought it for me, a proper vintage original. It kind of set me on the path I'm on today.
Whilst i don't really collect star wars toys (aside from my beloved At-At) I do buy the led lightsabers which then stretched to a full stormtrooper suit. This then progressed to a scout trooper suit, then a snow trooper then boba fett arrived and I'm currently working on a tie pilot.
I don't drink, don't smoke and the wages from my part time job entirely support the hobby (dh is as immersed in it as me now).

As for mum, strangely she's quite proud of her daughter the stormtrooper, though I do often joke if she'd just bought me the bloody toy in the first place none of this would have happened Grin

Laurie, that's hilarious!

We collect geeky things.

Anything from an Airfix model Tardis, to Ecto-1, Uss Enterprise (from the new films), A Pop Vinyl Krystal Ship (Breaking Bad) to various figures and models.

Harley Quinn, Jean-Luc Picard, Falcon/Sam Wilson, Eric Draven (The Crow) and my personal pride and joys...my Hot Toys Loki, Steve Rogers and Captain America (Strike Stealth suit version).

I'm on the hunt for a Klingon Bird of Prey and something X Men related for my next pieces.

SistersOfPercy, my DD2 would love you and your DH! I think she'd be rather envious of your light sabre collection too.
