to think indesit have deliberately put my family at risk

As most of you are probably aware, indesit have recalled a lot of their dryers. I felt quite lucky that my dryer was replaced for free quite quickly.

Now 2 months on I noticed my dryer was getting very very hot. It has also started to smell burny. I thought I would check this model just incase and yup this is being recalled too.

I feel like they have replaced my dryer with a faulty one to pacify me and in the hope I didn't check again (which I wouldn't have if it hadn't started showing problems)

I have called and emailed and I'm getting nowhere. I was told they would get back to me in 8 weeks. That, in my opinion, is not good enough

Mine was bought Sept 2015, registered it in Nov, heard nothing so went on FB and they said I could have a modification, a like for like replacement or a refund. I opted for a refund. Heard nothing for weeks, tried phoning - got passed between departments; never once got to speak to someone who could deal with it.

Then got a phone call from Hotpoint to ask when was it convenient for the engineer to do the mod! Said I wanted a refund. They said they'd get someone to call me - heard nothing.

Asked Currys to refund under Sale of Goods Act - they said it's not their responsibility...

Rang TS who said I may have a claim under SofGA, but I would have to prove there was a fault on the machine (would need an independent engineer report) as the recall doesn't say they are all faulty. Hmm

I've been pm'ing Indesit/Hotpoint on FB - get periodic replies to say they are chasing it up... Still nothing has happened.

I did receive an email offering a replacement for £59. No way I'm paying that when I'd just paid £159 and the damn machine was only 2 mths old in the first place!

Have just emailed the CEO.

Angry I just want a refund so I can buy a Bosch instead!

yomellamoHelly · 13/02/2016 17:06

Ours isn't going to be fixed until June. Only bought it in November. Was a matter of weeks before we got the recall notice. But they did offer us a replacement if we can't wait - for the bargain price of £99! Total rip-off.

I didn't see This Morning's piece about the faulty dryers, but am considering contacting BBC Watchdog next Grin

starshaker · 13/02/2016 17:34

I have sent watchdog a message. I can't be the only person they have done this too

AnotherParadox · 13/02/2016 19:27

Another one here who has goven up with Hotpoint, their lies, false promises and sheer crappinnes. Ive bought a brand new Soemebs from John Lewis and had my Hotpoint disposed off.

ZiggyFartdust · 13/02/2016 19:43

One should never go to bed or leave the house while an an appliance is still running

Bollocks. As if we all have time to babysit our appliances every single time we use them. Plus electrical fires from appliances are actually not very common at all, and usually down to user error anyway.

TheFairyCaravan · 13/02/2016 19:54

I'd contact Alice Beer at ITV This Morning. She's really got the bit between her teeth over these dryers.

They've not been recalled, though, which is part of the problem. It's a safety alert or something. If they used the word 'recall' people would have more rights hence why they won't.

She did say the other day it's going to take years to get round everyone.

MintyBojingles · 13/02/2016 21:00

YANBU my tumble dryer is hotpoint- registered it the day the news broke, and still waiting for the repair. Estimated in Feb, but haven't heard any more. Was offered £100 off a £200 dryer - naff offer as my dryer was £300 new!

starshaker · 13/02/2016 21:08

Thefairy, I have tweeted her and she said somebody from this morning is going to call me tomorrow. Hopefully i will get this sorted soon as having no safe dryer isn't an option

Tell her to search this site, there have been a few different threads about this issue.

I know someone who put their dishwasher on to run when they went out. They came back to their house being attended to by firemen. They lost everything except the clothes they were stood up in.
A washing machine cycle only lasts about an hour and a half. Are you seriously saying that there is not an hour and a half in the day when you are in and not in bed? You don't have to be in the room, just awake.

TheFairyCaravan · 13/02/2016 21:43

Excellent star. We replaced our Hotpoint dryer just before all this, I'm so glad we did.

We've got a Hotpoint dishwasher, I'm paranoid about it now, we've gone from putting it on at night to putting on in the evening just in case!

QOD · 13/02/2016 22:05

My Hotpoint is on the recall list, registered it in November, latest email said March for repair.

Pipbin · 15/02/2016 08:54

The man is here right now sorting mine out.
He has taken it completely apart!
The thing was full of fluff.

Shelby1981 · 15/02/2016 12:29

get on twitter and tweet them. When I wasn't getting a reply after registering my dryer and finding out it was one of the faulty ones, I tweeted them and got an appointment for a few days later.
