Jeremy Hunt needs to be sacked?

I cannot begin to imagine what possessed David Cameron to give him this job. He's an utter liability. The Government need to sack him, restart negotiations and distance themselves from him asap.

Not only for the junior doctors contract debacle, or his views on abortion, but also his views on homeopathy and also his dirty doings with the Murdochs show he has absolutely no discretion. Also lying, misconstruing statistics and covering up reports. www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/mar/07/jeremy-hunt-accused-cover-up-critical-nhs-report-tory-mp

He's awful. Did you hear him squirm when interviewed ? He comes across as an ignorant and toady little man and it beggars belief that this man holds responsibility for the health of the nation!

Even Tories want him sacked www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/tory-former-chief-whips-junior-7359501

I have a vested interest here - I trained as a medic but don't practice. I have lots of dr friends but I truely believe the majority of doctors are kind, compassionate individuals who care deeply about their patients. You don't go through the rigorous entry procedures, train for 10 years plus after med school, for a pretty low wage conspired to the city, for example. They're also an educated, articulate bunch - and if they can't outwit Hunt/Cameron, we are all screwed (unless our agenda fits with theirs).

In the plus side, if Camerin fucks up the EU renegotiations there may be an election sooner rather than later. I think so many people are now realising the extent of the cuts (direct and indirect, eg policies that perpetuate high house prices so that a whole generation may now never have their own home) and being personally affected by them, that the Tories may not get a majority next time.

I think to be health secretary you should have worked in the NHS for a decent period of time. Seeing as most of the decisions Hunt is involved in revolve around the NHS, I think there should be some proper representation from the organization itself, be that Simon Stevens type people from a centralized angle or very senior managers/ex managers of clinical and non clinical areas.

YANBU.

I'm a nurse and after seeing the treatment meted out to doctors, I'm petrified at what's in store for us.

However, too many people buy into the media-driven myth that we're a bunch of public sector slackers and they don't seem to care about the survival of the NHS either. Sad

I think a prerequisite for a departmental secretary should be to have a basic level of good faith for the professions you work with. Gove despised teachers, Hunt clearly feels the same about NHS workers.

Hunt is just the messenger. The tories aren't half as bad as the last Labour Party - they privatised more of the NHS than any other party has and that's a fact.

If labour were in power the situation would be much worse than it is now - they would have continued on their privatisation road much quicker than we are currently going. The NHS needs a massive overhaul - it's not fit for purpose!

I just like seeing how many people, especially reporters who have mispronounced his name, it's so good, he can't be sacked.

Repellent and utterly dishonest man.

I love the interview with Dr Rachel Clarke - www.digitalspy.com/tv/news/a782876/watch-junior-doctor-rachel-clarke-take-down-liar-jeremy-hunt-in-a-stunning-live-bbc-interview/

Guess what, Hunt refuses to have a debate with her.

Yabu to think he isn't the perfect person for Cameron, they have a lot in common.

Yabu to call him Jeremy Hunt, when his surname is pronounced with a 'c' not 'h'

What makes you think Cameron didnt know all of this when he gave him the job?The complaints are window dressing.
This is Tory policy. Everyone who voted for them voted for this.

You wanted tougher rules for benefits claimants, you wanted changes to the NHS.
I dont know what you all thought that would mean in practice.

Hunt and his like are lying arses. Whoever said fuck him and the lamppost he should be hung from... Not far off... I rarely have such a visceral reaction to politicians... But in his case...

Too many Tories have personal investment in private health care... It's better for their companies if the NHS falls to pieces. I utterly hate what the tories are doing to this institution. An institution that provides some of thr the best health care in the world.

Most doctors and health professionals are decent, bright people. Hunt and his like are treating them with utter contempt.

He does not know what damage he's meting out for ALL our future health needs.

He is a boil on the arse of humanity.

Of course this is part of the plan to dismantle the nhs.

I think that he has completely misjudged the public mood with regards to junior doctors. They haven't been able to smear them like they have teachers.

As someone who works in the NHS I can tell you that medics are a powerful body of people. If a contract can be imposed on them in any way heaven help the rest of us. It's opened the door for any employer to say if it's good enough for the government to do then we can do it.

I also can't believe the number of people (not on this thread btw) who've stated that they have to work weekends and they don't get special privileges etc. Do they not understand what doctors do? One size does not fit all.

Hunt has utterly misjudged the pubic mood. There is plenty wrong with the way the NHS is managed and funded and there is appalling waste and inefficiency but the Drs are NOT to blame.

FGS! Drs do work 7 days a week. We all know that. Its just tosh to say that these reforms and the new contract are about creating a 7 day NHS. It should be about utilising resources better, not just making junior Drs work longer and even more unpaid hours - which is quite frankly what the new contract is all about. Its the absolutely certain outcome. Patient care will be no better.

How about opening (or in our town reopening) minor treatment centres to take care of the stuff that should not be ending up in a hospital. The GP contract served up by Gordon Brown missed a massive opportunity to provide 24/7 community care.

The blame does not lie with Junior Drs - the public knows this.
