To think that parents on the school run are the most selfish and entitled driver on the roads?

There's is a big debate locally to where I live regarding school run parents and the chaos they cause when going to either pick up or drop off their kids at school. It mainly concerns the primary school a few streets away from me where residents have been complaining that school run parents are blocking driveways etc and then when challenged have been saying things like "oh its only for a few minutes". Knowing the area as well as I do I know that most families are within a short walk of the school, so why do they even needs to ferry their kids back and forth in a car?

I happen to work at another local school that has a sign on the gates saying that car park is for staff and taxis only, but due to parents ignoring it the headteacher now has to go out and stand in front of the gates to prevent parents using it. The roads outside are a nightmare, and I feel sorry for the people who live there. Its like there's a sense of entitlement that because they are either dropping off or picking up rh their children from school they can park wherever they like.

AIBU to think that a lot of school run parents are really entitled and selfish?

Sorry madmomma I didn't know your circumstances. But I personally know people who've done things like this, which I why I made that assumption about you. I still can't condone the parking on grass verges though, it's dangerous and what happens of emmergency vehicles need to
pass through?

They can pass through. The whole point of mounting the verge of so that traffic can get through.

Thing is regardless of how far away you live or where you need to get to after, that's no excuse for parking/driving recklessly/illegally.

In fact according to research that our head emailed us in 2011 6,645 people where casualties of "car school run casualties" of which 804 resulted in death or serious injury. That's horrific really when you think that is children/parents of children being killed or injured due to school run traffic/parking issues.

Yes. Agreed. My only point was that residents can be unreasonable and unlawful too. Not to justify dangerous driving. Residents need to be mindful of road users just as road users need to be mindful of residents.

Our secondary school have sent out numerous letters asking parents not to drive into the school grounds. There is plenty of space on the main roads outside to pull over and drop off. But STILL some parents keep driving into the school grounds as they obviously can't bear the idea that their precious offspring should have to walk for 30 seconds through the school gates to get inside.
They have now had to resort to one of the teachers each morning standing guard at the gate to turn parents cars away.
There really are some twattish parents out there who cannot believe they can't drop their DCs off at the door.

A colleague came into work yesterday upset as her 5 year old son was nearly knocked down by another mum on the pedestrian crossing.

I had a motorbike pass between me and my 9 year old on a zebra crossing. People just have no respect.
