To want a water meter?

DH thinks so and I'd be interested in other people's opinions/experiences. We moved fairly recently into a 4 bed detached from a 2 bed terrace. We paid £18 per mth and they want to increase it to 60. The house is worth approx double the two bed terrace so why would the rate value be triple? I think it would be cheaper to get a meter wouldn't it? Our usage hasn't actually changed as we have small can not independent teens using showers etc so AIBU?

At least with an assessed charge you don't have to worry that your bill would be huge if you had a leak misslanabanana
Also surprised that wannabe is on watersure tariff as the company I worked for only offered if also on benefits.

£12 a month water & sewage

Several water butts in garden

Meters make you think how you use water

We saved loads of money by getting a meter installed - can't remember the figures but it was a lot.
There was a study that showed that people on meters used less water, which can only be a good thing imo.

quietlife that's true, I didn't realise they could offer an assessed charge and was panicking about the new higher amount when the meter couldn't be fitted. I would have paid it of course but things would have been tight at the Time, and I wouldn't have a clue to ask for it. Our usage is genuinely the same as it's ever been , maybe even lower as we have only a weak shower now and no bath or power shower like before! but we treat it the same as when we were metered and don't waste water for the sake of it -have water butts for the garden etc.

I receive dla for having a permanent bag which enabled me to have watersure.

We used to pay £35 a month on a water meter (it was already there when we moved in) I wouldnt have chosen to install one but it was so cheap! Were a family of 4, wash load every day and we didnt exactly conserve water.
Now we have moved to another 3 bed which doesnt have a water meter and paying £48.
We have decided against another meter as the dd's are getting older so im expecting more laundry and showers pretty soon + we now have a dishwasher which we didnt have in the old house and a large garden and hose that we use to wash the cars every couple of weeks. We used to have to go to the jet wash.
Although it is more expensive, I like the peace of mind of a set price.
