AIBU about the heating?

I've just come up to bed and realised DH has, once again, turned the heating on beyond the set times. He's telling me he's cold, I'm telling him I'm hot. My argument is that he can put another layer on but I can only cool down by opening a window which makes him putting the heating on pointless.

I win this one don't I? and no he isn't a controlling twunt for anyone ready to pile in

From the other side, I am traditionally always the colder person (though I've heated up since my 40s Blush) and I refuse to sit in the house in my hat, coat, scarf, gloves because DH is too hot (doesn't want to pay the bill, more like). If I'm cold, I don't ask. It just goes on (rational).

Birdsgottafly · 11/02/2016 12:10

I always felt cold, when I was younger.

I used to think that my DH was very selfish, not just putting up with the temperature that I wanted.

I soon as I hit the Peri-Menopause, I was never cold and now realise that it is easier to deal with being cold, as opposed to being too hot.

Has he always been cold? starting to feel cold can be the start of a few health issues.

Just a quick reminder to all those agreeing it's easier to warm up than cold down, etc. Cold actually kills thousands of people in the UK every year. We don't suffer many deaths from heatstroke - if any.

  • cool down, dammit!
dudsville · 11/02/2016 19:15

He wins. You get yourself a fan and some ice packs!

I feel the cold tremendously. I know our home is at a good, warm temperature, I am wearing several layers of warm clothes, but I am not warm enough. I do get easily over heated, conversely, and find it very difficult to cool down. I can never tell if it really is cold outside or if it is just me. I know why I am like this, and there is nothing that can be done about it. But believe me, it is miserable being the cold one all the time. I don't crank the heating up, but there are times I really want to. There is never a winner in this situation.

dementedpixie · 11/02/2016 19:27

When you're in bed the heating goes off...It's the law!

mygrandchildrenrock · 11/02/2016 19:35

Get an electric blanket with dual controls, one that can be on overnight. That way he stays hot while he sleeps and you remain cool. Win, win!

ijustwannadance · 11/02/2016 19:44

I'm always cold and love my big cardi and rip off slanket. DD and DP don't seem to feel the cold. I know it must be cold tonight as DP is wearing jeans. Usually wears shorts in the house. Hate my bedroom being hot though so heating goes off at least an hour before bed.

GarlicBake · 11/02/2016 22:30

All you fellow cold people in cool houses should move in with me Grin It will be very cramped, but that'll keep us even warmer!

gandalf456 · 12/02/2016 10:58

Does anyone get so chilled to the bone that even jackets, jumpers won't work? sometimes I just need heat all around me

GarlicBake · 12/02/2016 11:04

Gandalf, I have low thyroid (not major, but enough to need medication) and have always been a 'cold' person. Thyroid cold is the sort that seems to flush the inside of your body with ice water. When I feel that kind of deep chill, I have to check my hands & face to see whether I'm 'cold on the outside' or not.

Either way, I need to turn the heating up!

GarlicBake · 12/02/2016 11:07

Meant to add - as I invariably do on these threads - there are limits to what wrapping up like an Inuit can do. Hands and face can still be cold, and it makes me cry.

I doubt whether Inuits keep their homes so cool that they have to wear the full fur hood, padding & boots indoors.

To repeat, cold kills thousands in the UK.
