To be annoyed at the Rob Brydon P&O advert?

VictoriaSecrets · 07/02/2016 21:06

Just saw this for the first time- am I being unreasonable to be annoyed by the bit where he and another chap are sitting at the table and it says something like 'saying hello to the Spanish shops' as it shows the women skipping off, and 'saying goodbye to your credit card' as the blokes sit down at the table watching them go... I've assumed the implication was that the women were going to blow all the men's money (as they can't possibly have their own) but maybe not. For some reason it's really narked me off!

She is his wife!!! So it certainly is their credit card, not his.
I hoped it was kind of a post-post modern nod to the Alan Partridge canal holiday advert.

cdtaylornats · 07/02/2016 22:56

Its the Haribo adverts that annoy me. If I wanted to see childish talk and behaviour I'd watch the Parliament channel.

gunting · 07/02/2016 23:01

Nothing beats those Tesco adverts. Fuck me, they are awful.

Elledouble · 07/02/2016 23:06

I hate seeing celebrities I like in adverts. I always wonder if they've fallen on hard times. I met Rob Brydon once and he was lovely, and I feel like he's demeaned himself a bit by being in those shite adverts with their rubbish non-jokes.

Oddoneout63 · 07/02/2016 23:18

I love the haribo adverts!!

I hate anything with whistling esp the stupid one where the little cartoon boy gets lots of balloons and almost floats away. Just go would you?

LovelyFriend · 07/02/2016 23:50

This is why I only very rarely wander away from Netflix and bbc. Recordable hard drives help you avoid all the arseholery.

MrsFionaCharming · 08/02/2016 00:02

I hate the Haribo ones. And the chicken madras one, but I loved the Lamb tikka / balti one.

NinaSimoneful · 08/02/2016 00:05

YYY to the stupid Centreparcs ad.

Also hate the Haribo ads. I see they have a new one out now. I groaned when I first saw it and said to DH that it doesn't look like they're going to be coming up with a fresh ad campaign any time soon.

Also see that Money Supermarket have a new ad. 'Right' says I 'That'll be their ad now for the next six months.' Colin the pole dancing builder was their previous installment and before that was Dave and his 'epic strut' in the denim hotpants.

It gets very boring. They'd be better off mixing it up and having a few ads on the go like the mobster insurance guy. He's got at least three at the moment, the hen party one, the café in Scotland and Connie's mum who ruined Roger the rabbit. And her phone. At least then it's not the same bloody ad every time.

SingingSands · 08/02/2016 00:10

That Center Parcs advert makes my son cry. He hates it because it makes him "feel so saaaad" (he is rather sensitive). We had a cracking time at CP last February and this bloody advert has ruined the memory for him!
I hate it because I kept expecting the Bears to turn into real people. But no, they're still bears. Which office employs a bloody bear, eh?!

sashh · 08/02/2016 06:29

He is just incredibly annoying at all times - no idea how/why anyone ever found him funny

annandale · 08/02/2016 06:38

The rest of the ad made me 10% less likely to avoid a cruise for the rest of my life, so I guess that's successful Sad Have always loathed the idea of a shitty prison hulk cruise but if I were going to meet Rob Brydon on a boat that does sound a bit less awful.

The credit card bit made me fairly furious though. Way to piss off 50% of the people who earn the shedloads of money you want to take off us for your floating campsite.

Floralnomad · 08/02/2016 06:54

The best advert at the moment is Beagle Street , with Jeremy the beagle and the trousers , I could watch it several times without any issues ( I can't do links but it's on YouTube ) . The worst advert ,except those already mentioned still has to be that Andrex one with the teacher laughing at the very unfunny children , I'm guessing she's had a lobotomy .

MuttonDressedAsMutton · 08/02/2016 09:48

YYY Floral - and I guess she'd need one if her day consisted of sitting listening to impossibly cute kids saying unlikely things to order Grin
I'm so glad someone mentioned Money Supermarket. One can only assume that the creative director on that one was off her fucking head on something!

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 08/02/2016 09:50

The P&O campaign is pretty rubbish but I will not blame Rob Brydon for taking the money. This whole notion that he is somehow selling out or letting his fans down is a bit daft. Reminds me when years ago David Mitchell and Alexander Webb fronted an Apple campaign (“Hello….I’m a PC) and they came in for all sorts of grief for being the front men for a big multinational and ‘selling out’. I read an interview with them a few years later and they were asked if they had any regrets for taking Apple’s money and Webb responded along the lines of “No regrets at all, yes we were famous from Peep Show, but believe it or not that did not actually pay very well and there was no guarantee that we would still be on the screen or earning anything from writing comedy ten years from now so when someone comes along and basically offers you a sum of money that is going to pay off your mortgage in one hit and have enough left over to pay childcare costs and give you financial security for the next few years I would have been irresponsible not to have said yes”

ineedabodytransplant · 08/02/2016 11:24

The advert that irritates me at the moment is the Coke one. It's where the younger boy gets bullied by his older brother, putting stuff out of reach, kicking him and shrugging 'not me'. Then when the older brother stops the other kids stealing the drink, as the younger boy starts drinking the fecker flips it so it goes all over him

What a wanker. Why would any advertising agency and then their client think this was a good idea?

Wouldn't encourage me to but Coke.

Oysterbabe · 08/02/2016 11:31

I'm on maternity with a tiny baby so watch daytime TV quite a lot all day
I'm forever singing Gladstone Brooks or Have I Got PPI Dot Com.
I want to top myself.

Wardy1993 · 08/02/2016 18:10

Yes Tired! That's exactly what I thought of when I saw the rob Brydon ad

'I just flushed a pound of mashed up Dundee cake... Handy to know, especially with elderly relatives on board'

Grin
Wardy1993 · 08/02/2016 18:13

There's a great Bose advert where the teenagers are about to kiss and the dad changes the music to some shitty cringy atmosphere ruining music so they desist... Hilarious

Oddoneout63 · 10/02/2016 21:46

ineedabodytransplant: I knew I wouldn't be the only one who hated that Coke advert! Big brother is as bad a bully as the others so what exactly are they trying to say? It's ok for big Bruv to bully little Bruv but not boys who aren't related?Confused

Oddoneout63 · 11/02/2016 14:18

Just seen the easystreet ad again - makes me reach for the bucket. Horrible characters, grinning and pretending to dance. They make me want to stay put, not move house!

pigsDOfly · 11/02/2016 14:35

Not technically and advertisement I suppose but a new infomercial, at least I think it's new, that I saw last night on resuscitating a baby that's stopped breathing.

It's all done in cartoon form and the speech is sort of 'children's television' cartoon speech.

Couldn't understand a word they were saying, not one word. How the hell is that helpful or informative?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 11/02/2016 14:55

Grin Worra

I do not like the Chicken Madras lady but I hate the Lamb Balti and his mushroom friend rice accompaniment much more.

I saw an advert the other night that I really like, Mattessons:
tvadsongs.uk/mattessons-advert-song-the-snackarchist-dude-fridge-raiders/

I thought it was witty. Certainly better than a lot of the drivel.

I really wish the Malteser cake ladies would disappear, that advert makes me cringe.

MistressDeeCee · 11/02/2016 15:00

nicole scherzinger "oh look at me aren't i so smugly beautiful with a splodge of yoghurt on my cute nose" yoghurt advert. I thought it had gone away but saw one the other day. Its so cringe I can't believe Mueller think its a good campaign. Annoying.

maybebabybee · 11/02/2016 15:05

My current peeve is that sodding nationwide advert with the lost scarf. The guy's face when he's buying the teddy gives me the rage. Can't explain it. Probably something to do with a bank acting as though it is all soft and cuddly.

maybebabybee · 11/02/2016 15:06

Oh God, and that other Muller advert with the blonde woman in the park who sits down to eat one of their low fat lemon dessert things (which are vile BTW) and shouts out "99 calories?!". Wish they'd stop using women to peddle low fat diet bullshit.
