to not buy my eleven-year old 16+ Xbox games

I am really struggling with something at the moment. My year 7 boy is desperate for a Star Wars game for his X-box but they are all 16+. He says that all his friends the same age have the 16+ ones and he is being excluded and teased at school by the other boys for not playing. He managed to find an old one on Amazon which was listed as a 12+ but it has just arrived and it too is 16+. I simply can't let an eleven year old play a 16+ game. To me if feels like a complete dereliction of parental duty. He is a really sensible and reasonable boy but I know he is going to be in floods of tears when he realizes he won't be able to play it. I just don't know what to do. Should I raise it with the school? How do other parents handle this?

My boys never play online so I am not sure about that bit. Fortunately the playstation is in our lounge so I can monitor it. I must say I haven't done enough research to know if there is an online issue.

I wouldnt have a problem. I can understand GTA etc but not Star Wars. My 13 YOs have it.

Thanks for all your comments. I guess my feeling is that I have researched the game and it doesn't really seem to be suitable for young kids to me. It's more how to handle the peer pressure that I'm struggling with. DS is at a huge city comprehensive with lots of very streetwise kids with much older siblings who play GTA etc. He is an only child with two bookish parents who literally don't have a clue about this stuff! We rely on the age ratings for guidance. It looks like I have to go against my parenting instincts just so he doesn't get killed in the playground!! (Exag) maybe that is how it is at secondary school.

Here in Canada, it's rated "T" which is for 13+. My DP has it and to me (not a gamer) it seems to be mostly about shooting other characters, upgrading weapons, skills etc.
