To wonder if there's still hope the Mirena might work?

Had a Mirena inserted in early October. Bled heavily until December (inserted for heavy bleeding not contraception).

Had a week of no bleeding in January :) :) :)

Lighter period than normal in January (normally horrific).

But still bleeding now. Not quite enough for mooncup plus extra protection but enough to be annoying.

Could it still work? Anyone had a change after four months? Having an ablation after Easter if no change.

Thanks everyone.

Will continue to monitor until the 6m point and see how I am.

Need to investigate some washable liners - fed up of ruining pants and disposables give me thrush. :(

Just to add my bit - my first one took 7 months to settle - grumbly irritating pain and spotting the whole time. It was demoralising and I nearly had it removed but i could not face the resumption of my v painful periods.

Since then (13 years ago) I have not had a period.

I am very glad I persisted.

All mine settled after about 9 months. Well worth it as i wouldn't be able to work without mine (flooding etc).

JB - as a teacher I was getting towards that point too :(

Narp - no real pain here. A bad twinge now and again but generally OK.

Don't like to speak to soon but having a day off bleeding heavily today. First in a month :)

Constant (but light) for 3 months, then a couple do regular periods then nothing for the remaining time.

A ton of other symptoms though that mean I wouldn't have another one which is a shame because no periods was great.

harridan50 · 07/02/2016 16:28

Mine took a good 6 months to settle. However now no periods for 16 years, would not be without it.

OP

The heavy bleeding must be horrible.

I really hope it settles for you.

I didn't really monitor mine. Had it inserted at the beginning of October, by the end of March (when my boyfriend passed away, the only way I can remember the date!) I was spotting 3 or 4 days a month. 3 years on, I bleed extremely lightly ( no need for pads etc, just notice it when I wipe, sorry for TMI!) for 2/3 days and then nothing for months.

I have, however, put on weight (might be the comfort eating due to feeling lonely though!) and started to sprout a beard!
