To think it is not actually possible to "give up sugar"?

I had thought of doing this for Lent. But now I start looking more closely, sugar of some type is in everything! Even milk.

AIBU to think cutting down on sugar is possible but giving it up is not and people who say they have cut out sugar must be cheating in some way??!

Digerd, I have been watching sugar free farm and withdrawing from sugar does cause rages.

It was interesting last night as the nutritionist (or is she a scientist ? Who knows :o) said there was a study don't on rats who were addicted to cocaine and sugar and withdrawn from it. When it was reintroduced, the rats chose the sugar over the cocaine Shock

I must admit, I'm not a sweet person. I like bananas, grapes, strawberries, blue berries. I don't eat chocolate, cake, bread, pop. Potatoes make me really tired. Peas don't, or carrots...I do like wine though

I think I just need to go wine free :)

Ourblanche, I was reading something (in a newspaper :o) where they took people who drank differing amounts and tested their liver function. The person with the worst results was an overweight man who didn't drink but he ate alot of biscuits! Shock

It's a just habit you can give up (and I don't like or drink milk so dairy products isn't an issue). I eat loads of veg. If I want to be a bit thinner I don't have fruit. I drink water. I don't like alcohol. So for some of us it's not an issue. I go in phases - sometimes I will have a pudding at a hotel after a meal but just taking yesterday I don't think I would have had any sugar (unless some form of it is in natural veg). I certainly feel happier when I don't.

I am constantly showing the teenagers how in processed foods they sometimes eat sugar is always there - even if you get a chicken which has a glaze on it it will be full of junk in the glaze, tomato sauce is 40% sugar, cereals are the devil's work, many of those supposedly healthy "bars" out there have it in. If you just eat normal natural foods rather than processed things with ingredients on the side it's not very hard to avoid it.

They drank alcohol obviously, not water

Grin Wine Biscuit ??!!

Yes, I'll take the wine. It's better for my liver. The newspaper said so :o

The type of sugar that most people mean that they are giving up is Fructose. There are other types of sugar (including the type found in milk) that are not considered to be unhealthy. Have a look at this website if you're interested in following a programme or learning more about it: I Quit Sugar

£80?

For a meal plan, no food! Yeah! Great idea! Commonsense and a bit of a Google is a far better plan!

I've been on less than 20g carbs per day since new year and lost 10lbs. As all starches are broken down to sugar, I don't really distinguish between starches and sugar it's all the same once it's been in your body a while (I am diabetic so for me it all raises blood sugar). The only way to completely cut out all sugars and starches would be to live on meat, eggs and fish. Most food from vegetation will have some carbs.

I certainly think many people feel a lot better if they get their carbs from veg.
