Where I live quite a few people have them, and for a few months each year you cant open the windows to get fresh air as it just stinks of smoke and when ever you go outside it smells of smoke. Its way worse than car fumes imo.

I'm not talking about my stove, im talking about others. I have a neighbor that works on a building site, and he burns god knows what in his open fire.

It's just in the morning and when cooking i want a bit of fresh air, but sometimes it feels like i'm living in beijing.

Is he burning stuff in an indoor fire, or a bonfire? Industrial stuff?

To be fair though, cooking smells can get about. I've had the garden reeking of garlic from the neighbours. If I open my window when I'm cooking curry I have to take the washing down (the line runs past the kitchen window).

But if your neighbour is burning industrial waste, either in his home or garden, that's not on. I wonder if this is something the council would care about?

hes burning what ever kind of wood he can get his hands on for free at work in an open fire.

yes cooking smells can get about, but a curry isn't carcinogenic. Tried the council, kept a log, then they just send him pamphlets. he's very "Its my house and I can do what I like".

YANBU
I really don't like wood burners except in old country cottages. They're too common now, everyone seems to have them irrespective of the type of house they live in.
We had reproduction Victorian gas fires put in last year and the fitter was Confused that I didn't want a wood burner. 'No-one has gas fries anymore. Everyone's having wood burners', he said. Exactly.
