To wear this colour?

Friends are getting married soon and in anticipation I have already bought a dress. We have just received the wedding invite and the 'theme colour' is more or less the same colour as my dress.

Will it look like I'm pretending I'm to be a bridesmaid?? It's a sort of cobalt blue if that makes any difference.

I really like my new dress and I look and feel really good in it (which doesn't happen often!). What if I wear a little jacket or cardigan in a different colour over it?

Contact the bride, possibly by text or email, and ask: have you told me your theme colour because you would like me to wear the colour, or avoid the colour?

Then all will be crystal clear.

(Hope you get to wear the dress!)

Cobalt blue actually looks fab with orange shades so it you got a wrap that colour wouldn't be bridesmaidy.

What length is the dress?

Will you be following the bride down the aisle??

But aren't you supposed to wear something in the theme colour, to make the photos look less of a dog's dinner?

I thought you were about to say "white" when I first started reading....
Well tbh if she's expecting the guests not to wear this colour is not fair on you cause you found out later
If it was white id understand but you can't dismiss every colour out there just in case it's their colour
I'd wear it !

We received purple themed invites and so my sister and I both wore very different cobalt blue knee length dresses. Turned out the bridesmaids were in another very different cobalt blue knee length dress and the men were the ones wearing the purple. The bride though it was brilliant and joked we could be back up bridesmaids. In the main pics, we don't look like bridesmaids and I don't think we stand out either.

I can't say I've ever noticed someone in the same colour and thought pretending to be a bridesmaid.

This is the problem with dressing your bridesmaids in fashionable dresses. Grin

I'd say getting the same style was worse than the same colour.
