Done all the chopping, now I am softening all the orange peel in my slow cooker. Then once it's done I'll transfer it all to my preserving pan ready for the big boil up with the sugar. Has anyone tried this method? Does it work?

I that case I'm with your DH Ginger.

deeply invested in marmalade today

Twunk · 26/01/2016 16:20

YABU. Marmalade is revolting stuff.

BaronessBomburst · 26/01/2016 16:28

Noo! The marmalade would have matured and been delicious!

ComposHatComesBack · 26/01/2016 16:34

What part of your Marmalade do you think is being unreasonable?

But in response to your question....

I don't know - do I look like Mary fucking Berry?

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 26/01/2016 16:38

This is a stealth marmalade boast Agreed, but why?

It's like when people make a bit deal out of making their own jam. It's so bloody easy. If I was going to stealth-boast, I'd make it about something a bit more impressive than Fruit. Sugar. Boil. Shove in jars.

Queen reminds me of the slightly less x-rated joke:

Man: What's the difference between a marmalade sandwich and oral sex?

Woman: I don't know

Man: Do you want to go on a picnic?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 26/01/2016 16:43

YABU.

MagpieCursedTea · 26/01/2016 17:12

I made marmalade once, took me bloody hours to prepare the oranges (taking out seeds and getting all the white bits off). It was a present for my Dad though and he loved it, so at least it was worth it.
I did it all in the pan, the same way I make jam so didn't follow a recipe. Maybe it was just orange jam and not marmalade? I'm not sure I'm really qualified to answer the OP's question.

Queenbean · 26/01/2016 17:21

Compos nice! Have just copied and pasted that out to everyone I know Grin

mummytime · 26/01/2016 17:22

My Mum's old cookbook has two recipes. One is boil up then remove pips, and finely cut. Then boil with the sugar.
The other has you soak the oranges first for 24hrs, then cut and boil with the sugar.

The recipe that comes with the oranges is far more faff, all removing pith and pips to a muslim bag, then fine chopping the peel etc.

For marmalade the pectin comes from the pips and pith.

SauvignonBlanche · 26/01/2016 18:06

YABU - marmalade is bad for your teeth.

chemenger · 26/01/2016 18:12

All marmalade is unreasonable because it should be jam and therefore nice, but instead it is nasty bitter muck. Except Rose's Lime Marmalade which is lovely.

Help! I look after my grandson. On the times he goes to his dad, I always remind him that his milk is included and he says yes will do. When I collect him, it still there....he is 16 months old but he loves his milk in the morning and evening ....
What do I do without sounding I'm nagging him 😑
