AIBU to think the pill has caused my illness?

I was prescribed the 24 day BCP YAZ by my GP in asia.

First month was fine, but apparently I was told to take it in a way that I now know is incorrect. I was told to take for 24 days, wait for period and restart new pack on fifth day from when bleeding started.

This is obviously wrong, what I should have been doing is sticking to a 24 day cycle and taking the new packet on the 28 th day irrespective of bleeding.

ZiggyFartDust- If I am wrong or if you think my question is stupid, that's fine. It's just a question.

Calling me daft and arguing with me and other posters on unrelated maters is not great IMO.

Like I said- you clearly don't have related info so please don't post here.

Thanks

Chazs- I have PCOS so that might be the culprit here! I've developed proper fever now though, so it's more likely an infection. Might go to a private GP if NHS can only see me next Friday.

Nope, I don't use tampons so it can't be toxic shock thank fully

OP, if you live here now you should consider registering with a UK GP. It doesn't make sense to be getting the pill from a GP on the other side of the world. If you are unhappy with this pill, speak to the GP here about changing, there must be other options. However, I read previous thread(s?) from you about the pill in which you said that you are extremely anxious and you need to consider if you are actually creating symptoms in your mind because of this. Also, it's January, half the country seems to have colds/the flu, isn't it far more likely to be that than the pill which is causing your illness?

VoldysGoneMouldy · 26/01/2016 13:03

Why do you think it's an infection?

AyeAmarok · 26/01/2016 13:04

You can't demand who is allowed to post what on a public forum. And AIBU isn't really the place for this.

If you're not happy being on the pill and it's causing you this much anxiety, then just come off it and try an alternative method of contraception.

SqueegyBeckinheim · 26/01/2016 13:11

Unless you have any other infection symptoms, ie swollen sore tonsils or earache and ear discharge, the fever is far more likely to be being caused by a virus and certainly a NHS doctor wouldn't thank you for coming in (private may not care so much as you're paying). Rest, take paracetamol, drink fluids and you'll probably feel better in twenty four hours. If not then ring 111 and see what they suggest.

Nicebucket · 26/01/2016 13:13

I am registered with a UK GP.

But the GP surgery back home where my family is from is usually much better and they've been treating me for years. So I normally go there when I'm on holiday at home.

Anyway, I've always had anxiety but from what I can see the pill hasn't made that worse.

It has caused fluid retention and mood swings and actually made my acne worse.

I imagine these other symptoms are unrelated, but I merely wanted to check as I've never been on hormonal contraception before.

Sorry to have asked

Wow, OP. Catch yourself on.

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 26/01/2016 13:19

OP, it sounds as though the pill could be exacerbating your anxiety, you seem quite anxious about some very minor symptoms there.

I'd try a different method of contraception and see if that lessens the anxiety Smile

Oh, and for what it's worth, I really don't see that ziggy was argumentative OP, on the contrary you come across as quite argumentative yourself.

VoldysGoneMouldy · 26/01/2016 13:21

^^ Agree with whatnow completely.

dementedpixie · 26/01/2016 13:29

Have you tested for pregnancy as you would have been pill free for too long if you had a break between packs?

Nicebucket · 26/01/2016 13:40

I am not pregnant.

Blimey, welcome to MN, you sound like you'll be a joy to have around.

Pro tip: it's the flu. Why are you getting contraception prescribed in Asia if you live and work in the UK?

Nicebucket · 26/01/2016 14:29

Because barring this particular GP who fucked up recently, the doctors back there have usually been much better for me. Not trashing the NHS at all, just my experience.

I can never get an appointment with my NHS gp anyway.

Anyway, I am sure I'll sort this out.

Like I said, it was just a question. It's my first experience with hormonal contraception, so I don't really know what the side effects can culminate into.

Sorry I asked!

Fucked up how?! As far as I see it, it's the patients responsibility to actually read the information with the drug and follow the dosage instructions.

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 27/01/2016 09:23

And as for culminating side effects, I really don't think there are any Hmm

Nicebucket · 02/02/2016 19:59

WhatthefreakingWhatNow-

Are you serious? I concur that my question wasn't particularly bright, but you can't possibly be serious that patients can just take every drug based on the packet instructions and doctors have no responsibility whatsoever to advise the correct dosage and timings.

For what it's worth- I DID read the instructions. I DID go back and ask the doctor because the instructions on the packet were totally different to what he had said. He then told me to ignore he instructions and take the pill as he as advised.

Anyway, I have now visited a new GP and gotten the correct advice regarding how to fix the messed up cycle and how to take the pill going forward.
