No, not the huge snow storm in the US or King Tuts beard

But

Magnums and Cornettos are to shrink!

It's made the scrolling breaking news on BBC World news.

AIBU to think civilisation really has come to an end? First it was Cadbury and their creme eggs, then the annual downsizing of 'Christmas Choc' packs and now flippin Magnums!! --I didn't know they still made Cornettos but I never could have 'justa one'.

Anyone feeling the pain?

OP posts:
RiverTam · 25/01/2016 16:17

Magnums could do with being a tad smaller, but cornettos? Noooooooo!

tomatodizzy · 25/01/2016 16:19

For all the lilliputians that can't eat a whole magnum I'm Confused....Shock!!!

My problem is they shrink the magnum and up the price....bastards!

HSMMaCM · 25/01/2016 16:36

If I want a small Magnum, I buy a multi-pack of mini ones and eat more than one. I don't like people making the decision for me. Sometimes I just NEED a full sized Magnum. Not quite so bothered about Cornettos.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 25/01/2016 16:40

For some reason this makes me really irritated.

The size difference isn't the issue- it's the fact that the price stays the same.

I made the mistake of buying a box of creme eggs when DD's friends were over assuming there'd be 6 as always. Nope. I had to go without. Who sells things in odd numbers? That's just weird.

MaisieDotes · 25/01/2016 16:41

muddle have you tried the Lidl cornettos? They're huge.

yumyumpoppycat · 25/01/2016 16:55

I agree magnums full sized are too big but cornettos are just right as they are!

yumyumpoppycat · 25/01/2016 16:57

Shirkingfromhome · 25/01/2016 17:04

For everyone who said they can't manage a whole one, where are you buying them? Is there a special shop stocking giant magnums?

It's just wagon wheels and curly wurly's all over again Sad

Andrewofgg · 25/01/2016 17:39

Ring 999. You could be the star of the next Stupid Calls Audio File released by your local force Grin

Millionsmom · 25/01/2016 17:55

Shirkin don't get me started on the Wagon Wheels debacle! I just knew they'd been shrunk, but my dear deluded children wouldn't have it.

What next? One finger kit Kats????

OP posts:
WotNoLoobrush · 25/01/2016 17:58

YANBU.

I saw a pack of mini eggs for £1 earlier. There couldn't have been more than about 8 eggs in there...

MrsSparkles · 25/01/2016 18:09

YADNBU - we had some Cadbury egg and spoons last night and they were only half full of mousse, I feel totally irrationally irritated (but then I am 25 weeks pregnant). Bastard Kraft.

StitchesInTime · 25/01/2016 19:12

Millions - arguably we can already buy one-finger Kit Kats. You only get one giant finger if you buy a chunky Kit Kat Wink

OttiliaVonBCup · 25/01/2016 19:28

Don't give then ideas, Millions.

One finger Kit Kats, one Twix - must say I hate Twix though.

CaptainHammer · 25/01/2016 19:57

I could definitely eat a whole pack magnum!
Iceland do their own version which is nice, their own Soleros (solos) are delicious too and 3 for 89p!

Naty1 · 25/01/2016 20:12

I ate 2 boxes of magnums some days when pg. 8lb 8 baby.
I find the same with crisps i end up eating several of the multipack bags

Muddlewitch · 25/01/2016 23:10

Maisie No, will add them to my list, for research purposes. Their Ben and Jerry's style ice cream is good too.

Crazypetlady · 26/01/2016 00:38

I ate 3 packs of the peanut butter cornettos when they first came out in three days. I no longer buy them one magnum is a mere starter.

but no yanbu.

driveninsanebythehubby · 26/01/2016 04:22

I work for a chocolate manufacturer - I've read a few interesting things about why companies drop the size and leave the price point. Basically it's because costs are increasing but the supermarkets refuse to take a price increase (either to themselves or to pass on to consumers and the margins they make are bloody ridiculous but don't get me started on that!). So companies have 2 options - carry on as they are and either make less money (or start losing money) OR shrink the size of the product.

Also, various consumer surveys have been conducted. People generally have said they'd rather the price stayed the same and the product shrank than the other way around. Also, most people will accept a size change but not size change and price increase.

I believe there's also something around making these sort have to be coming in under 250 calories per serving - that's why so many chocolate bars have shrunk too. Not sure if those rules are in place yet though....

On a personal note - leave the bastard magnums alone! They may be the work of Satan but I don't want them any smaller. Seriously - who can't eat a whole one?! I can eat a whole one and the remanents of the kids once they've had enough.

Millionsmom · 26/01/2016 04:51

DOH, of course, I hadn't thought of that. I wonder how long it'll be before 'Chunky' Kit Kats no longer are! I wonder if 'they' think we won't realise?

I've actually seen single twixes already, twix topper are some such thing. I thought 'Who would buy one of those? The choc doesn't even cover the whole bar, you can't do the twix nibble and then the twix would be just an un satisfying biscuit'.

OP posts:
driveninsanebythehubby · 26/01/2016 05:12

You get single finger Twix's (and have done for years - I'm 36 and remember having them as a kid). They're in the biscuit aisle normal along with the 2 finger kit lays, clubs, etc.

Twix toppers - ah yes..... An interesting concept. I didn't think they were still made!

JohnThomas69 · 26/01/2016 05:40

Youre right driven. It's the 250 call rule. Apparently the nanny state is pressurising these companies to restrict calorie limits on there treats.. We are after all a bunch of dumb glutinous animals who don't have the good sense to regulate our own intake. So they've taken it upon themselves to do it for us. A bit like what I do for my dog. Infuriating tbh.

OohMavis · 26/01/2016 07:35

Cornettos are disgusting and have been for years.

I will miss having a massive white magnum though Sad

Notso · 26/01/2016 09:44

Maybe if they only sold them in ice cream vans and rip off tourist attractions for £3 a pop instead of in multipacks for £1 at the supermarket then they could keep them the same size.

Baffled at who can't eat a whole one it's only about three spoonfuls of ice cream. My Mum can't eat but then she mostly exists on coffee and a ryvita.
